My first post for ages, so I thought I'd speculate, as I did on the train home tonight, who the contenders for this year's Sports Personality of the Year would be. I can't remember how many they put on the final list; is it eight? My selection would be:

Cricket

Ben Stokes, who will win by a mile
Stuart Broad

Football

Raheem Sterling
Lucy Bronze
Possibly Trent Alexander-Arnold, though I think he will win the Youth award (do they have this?)

Athletics

Dina Asher-Smith, who I think will come second
Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who might come third

Formula One

Lewis Hamilton will put in his usual appearance if he wins the title again

I can't work out who the eighth contender will be. No-one has stood out in cycling or golf this year, or in horse racing or equestrian sports (has Frankie Dettori had many winners this year?)

Team of the Year

England Cricket World Cup Team or Liverpool
