A friend of the fiancee of one of my sons has a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed on New Years Eve as having an incurable brain tumuor. His life expectancy is estimated at a maximum of 9 months, although he hasnt been told of this, his mother asked him the question "If you had the money what is the thing that you would most like to do?" His answer was swim with the dolphins at Disney World/Land in Florida. She has 5 children , of which he is the middle, so obviously she cannot take just the one child so all of her friends are rallying around to raise the cash to enable the family to make the trip.

My son is intent on going on a sponsored diet to help raise funds.

Does anybody know of a recognised diet that would allow him to lose weight quite quickly so as to raise more money that would not be harmful to a mid 30s working man who is about 2 - 3 stone overweight. His aim is to start the diet on 1st February and finish it on Easter Sunday 23rd March.

Any advice would be gratefully received as would anybody who may wish to sponsor him. If you wish to sponsor him please pm me and I will pass it on to him although he is registered with NSC himself.

Can't help with the diet ideas cos I don't know any which would make him lose 3 stones in 2 months and remain healthy.

He would prob raise more money if he stopped smoking instead and donated the money he would have spent on fags.

Another idea could be to organise a 'do' for Valentines Day? Perhaps a party of some sort where the venue is donated, and get a DJ who is prepared to donate his fee. Then start ringing round local businesses asking for decent raffle prizes, and charge an admission fee.

If you/he decided to do it, I may know of a radio DJ who is willing to help. Let me know and I will ask him

I'd seek medical advice before he does that, especially if he is looking at 3 stone weight loss in a month and a bit which it sounds like.

Like the U.S. army have to do to most of their recruits!!

I was posted over there to train with the Americans was quite funny seeing the recruits on their first week.

1 guy i remember Nathaniel something lost 6 stone in 2 months of hard work and the M.O. said it probably put 30 years on his life expectancy

Sorry didnt make myself clear he doesnt expect to lose 3 stone but at the moment he is 2 -3 stone overweight. I estimate that he would lose about 2lb per week on the Weight Watchers points diet which is about 1 stone in total.

That's all well and good if they are confident people, and are doing it for the right reasons. Crash dieting like that will have a massive risk of developing annorexia nervosa, and if the person has a heart condition that they are unaware of, or BP problems, it will knock 30 years and some OFF his life. Let alone the massively increased risk of MI's, renal failure, strokes, osteoporosis, anaemia, hypocalcemia etc etc etc.

BG, as long as it is like that then it is fine!! I had envisaged a massive weight loss going on!!!
