Seems bonkers to me. Surely the point of FFP is to encourage clubs to spend within their means. A cap based in the way described means you can lose as much money as you like provided your spending is not above the cap. That is a recipe for disaster.

Will it hinder a prudent club like Albion? Looks like this would help those such as Newcastle who want to spend more but are restricted by the current situation, whereas TB tries to operate sustainably (by PL standards). Bit confused about Villa’s reasoning. I know PSR/FFP protects the status quo but can’t quite fathom how this would improve competitiveness unless the ratio is much lower than 5x.

Looking at the basic details and what is being said I don’t get why those teams voted against? It seemingly won’t change much and actually gives them room to spend, can anyone explain in layman’s terms?

Maybe because it allows others to spend more, those big clubs can already spend a lot under PSR, but this rule would allow the likes of Everton, Forest, Newcastle to spend just as much as them. So City, Chelsea and United will vote against basically to stop competition.
