No. Much rather go down the M4 all kitted up in the car. Plus staying the night in Cardiff should we make it.

Not if its no Alchohol no chance.....I'll get a normal train and get pissed on the way I think.

Excellent idea.

I'm not sure that alcohol will be permitted on ANY trains or buses travelling to Cardiff for this game, assuming it falls within the provisions of the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985.

The Act prohibits the possession of alcohol on the way to matches on football special coaches, trains, and mini-buses and makes it an offence to be drunk on them.

It also makes it an offence:

to try to enter a ground when drunk or in possession or alcohol;
to possess or consume alcohol within view of the pitch during the period of the match;
to possess inside the ground any drinks container which when empty is normally returned to the supplier or disposed of (ie disposable cans, bottles and other containers);
to possess fireworks, flares etc in the sports ground;
or to be drunk inside the ground during the period of the match.

The Act provides the police with the power to search someone reasonably suspected of committing an offence under the Act, and to arrest such a person: this may include searching coaches or trains carrying passengers to or from marches or on arrival as well as searching fans.

The Act also provided police with powers to close bars at the ground if it is necessary to prevent disorderly behaviour.

Bloody cheap though. The cheapest price I could find from London was £48.

Are you having a laugh?

What do you honestly think are the chances of the South Wales Police bothering to stop coaches and minibuses travelling into the city simply because they have alcohol on board?

They've never done anything of the sort before any other game at the Millennium Stadium!

The stadium is surrounded by pubs, clubs and off licences. On the day of the game there will be thousands of fans from both clubs drinking in the streets and the castle grounds as usual.

If it's anything like international days though, you won't have a hope in hell of getting into any of them. Let's hope that the landlords won't be too particular about who they let in.

The Brain's Skull Attack will be good for getting really pissed.

£27.50 is not bad; will they take Young Persons Railcards?

No alcohol is ridiculous; I am sure you can get round it.

It sounds like a good idea in principle, even if just for the bobble hatters, but I think I am at least going to be up there for the Saturday night. Could come back on it I suppose.

Hove to Cardiff won't travel through Croydon which is a shame. It will probably travel through Fratton though.

I must admit that, rather stupidly, i had not considered a passport check!

:dunce:

If it is anything like the ones on mainland Europe it could take over an hour whilst they check all the passports. They do not want any sheep rustlers getting into the place.

Anyway, stop worrying about methods of transport, there is the rather large matter of getting past Swindon tomorrow night.

Hope not - that's means it'd take a detour :ohmy:

Newbury, Berkshire.
There are loads of posters at Reading Station saying that all trains to Cardiff on Saturday for the FA Cup Final are DRY, i.e. No Alchohol will be served.

Don't think that you will be able to get on a scheduled train and drink - you won't.

My main worry about a "seagulls special" would be the type of rolling stock used and how likely would it be to breakdown on route.
