I started getting texts from this porn site a while ago, with a link to a site.
Honestly no sites were visited on my phone.
Obviously I just deleted anything that I did not recognise.
Recently recieved my bill from Virgin of over £30, whilst expecting it to just be the £6 I pay for my monthly tariff.
After speaking to Virgin about the excess, they explained that I was being charged £3 for every text I recieved, and deleting them did not make any difference, this was just the new way spammers get their money and that my number was probably passed on from another scource, which is frequently happening these days.
They offered to wipe the excess off my account and give me a new number free of charge.
Just wanted to pass the info on.
I know I am openng myself up to abuse from the comics on here, but I thought I had to tell.:)

Reading that, I just had to look this one up again. Still one of my favourite stories. Go on, Ron, you sly old dog :lolol:

An elderly couple who were billed £200 for pay-per-view porn films they claim were never ordered insist they are ‘not paying a penny’.

Ann Hayward, 72, and her husband Ron, 75, were left stunned after staff at Virgin Media told them dozens of blue movies had been ordered on their account.

The couple from Reddish, Stockport, have previously disputed bills for adult films in 2009 and 2012 :lolol: when they refused to pay bills for £190 and £500, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Mrs Hayward maintains neither she nor her husband ordered the films after re-activating Virgin’s ‘on demand service’.

‘I was told everything would be alright and not to worry. We got a message coming up on the TV saying “channels unavailable”,’ she explained.

‘It worried me so I called up and the next day I was told I’d ordered more than £200 of films. I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it was happening again. No-one else comes in here. There’s obviously something wrong with the technology.’

She added: ‘I told them they can take me to court. I’m not paying a penny.’

A Virgin Media spokeswoman said: ‘These films were unquestionably watched by someone in the Haywards’ home. We are happy to arrange a payment plan but have said they may want to find an alternative provider going forward.’

That is a service BT does not offer.

I got this text today.

Pretty poor English, it was a Lloyds account (I checked the sort code), I don't know anyone called Sharon either. We did think about replying saying will send the money for a boob shot, but thought better of it.

Try telling the spammers that this phone is your son / daughters phone and ask if it is company policy to send porn to children?

I would suggest that you don't need to change number. I had a similar thing with EE lately (online gaming rather than porn) and was charged £5 for two messages. They put a block on the service being able to take money and blocked the number from even contacting me.

Additionally they raised a complaint with the company who then refunded me the costs. When the company in question emailed me they claimed I had been through 3 complicated menus and then decide to pay - but they also refunded it. Figuring out who owns them etc. and whether it is worth taking further

edit: just to add, when they did text to say the refund was confirmed I checked the number it showed up as and was the same as that used for Liverpool FC updates. I found that a bit odd

This can't be right.

If that's correct, then we will all be getting these texts as spammers make billions. Changing your number won't help, they'll just text every possible number.

I see your point, but thats how the Virgin 'tech experts' advised me :)

I get a text now and again from Hungry House, I have never used this company though.

The last text said " We've updated your account with the new delivery location you have provided, ( some address in SW15 which is obviously not mine). If you did not make this change, please call us on 02088******** "

I have had several texts like this but with a different address each time, all the addresses are in the South London or Surrey area.
I have never called the number given.

Just googling it - I just can't believe this sort of thing is allowed to happen!

I don't disbelieve you, but it just doesn't compute. We'd all have to get rid of our phones. Have you done much research into it?
Did not think anything of the sort :)
I did not research myself, but Virgin said they would investigate further to get monies back, and let me know outcome!
Still waiting on their feedback.

If they did that, the networks wouldn't pay them and it would instantly be seen as a scam. So they pick the odd number here and there, falsify (allegedly) a contact requesting the texts, and start sending them. There are two ways of stopping them, get the network to block them as the OP has done (in which scenario they end up with nothing) or get the recipient to contact them to get them stopped (they hope the unlucky punter will not have noticed one or two of them and make it almost impossible to get a refund through them).

The scammers don't need to send out millions of these to make a living, a few thousand a month will net them a tidy sum.

How do I they set up a company to send these texts?
