Great story! You can almost imagine huge missiles being fired out of either end..... :jester::shootself

That story was well worth another read - it still made me laugh. Some of the comments are fantastic.

I hope it isn't a military installation as it is the most poorly-built tunnel in Britain. It's always being closed for repairs; if they closed the Dartford Tunnel (which is longer and carries more traffic) as regularly as they close the Southwick one there'd be an national outcry.

Can't the Highways Agency sue the builders? Is it part of the reason it was so late opening?

I remember when I was a Pig Cadet, we had an "emergency evacuation exercise" - which consisted of about 10 of us in a minibus whcih was supposed to be on fire, and all of us in varying states of injury.

We were told to pick an injury and stick to it, so for example if I chose 2 broken legs I couldn't suddenly get up..

That all went to shit when the ambulance paramedic guy DRAGGED me out by my legs.

There was something wrong with the concrete layer on the inside of the walls i believe. I think it made the tunnels too narrow and they had to strip some of it back (which it why it was seriously delayed) which has made it weaker than it should be - hence the reason why it has to have lots of checks and works over weekends.

Thanks what i recall but i may be completely wrong

It would be somewhat ironic if they did have to fire a missile, and there had been a real accident in there, blocking the thing.
