Hope they get some good news soon.

I believe the last time I went there Adams subbed Kuipers at half time, we had just signed Zamora and sang “Bring On The Champions” before the game, believe we ended up as Champions too but I don’t recall the score. Last game against them I was at was Withdean on a very rainy day where the pitch resembled a mud bath (I think) and I don’t remember that result either! Happy days!
Southend won both matches 2-0.
The game at Roots Hall was on a stiflingly hot day, it was almost unbearable in the packed away end.

A great day at Southend that year.... Then the football started.

Ludicrous that football has allowed itself to slide to incredible levels of inequality.

In my mind the creation of the premier league was the turning point. I still describe us as being in division one.

On an emotional level I stand with Southend fans. But in a practical sense what can any of us do in the tumult of avarice and geopolitics into which we've allowed ourselves to slide?

And a young John Keeley was his first choice keeper for a short time, until a quip about Moore’s fetching gold bracelet didn’t quite hit the spot 🙈

Unfortunately like we did Southend had an owner who had non footballing motives, I hope they can survive but if they do go I fear they won’t be the last this season.
Vic Jonson was that, Ian? I seem to remember he was one of those, along with Barry Hearn, who wanted us kicked out of the Football League when we were going through our survival battle. Not that I had anything against Southend fans. I had a chat with some on the train coming back from an away match in in 2008 on a Friday evening, and they seemed decent chaps.

No I meant the latest one they are in the process of getting shot off. You’re thinking about Anton Johnson, ‘King of the Clubs’, who in the 1970s had controlling interests in both Southend and Rotherham at the same time as well as being a major stakeholder in non league Scarborough.

I think it nearly made dear old Alan Hardaker at the Football League choke on his Werthers Originals. 😂
