TEAM NEWS

Southampton defender Jack Stephens, who has played just 11 minutes since 4 December because of a combination of suspension and a calf injury, is fit again.

Manager Ivan Jurić says he could select Flynn Downes after the pair resolved the issues that had led to the midfielder being left out of the squad for the past three weeks.

Adam Lallana and Taylor Harwood-Bellis remain sidelined.

Brighton's Pervis Estupiñán and Solly March are both back in training after injury and so could play some part.

However, captain Lewis Dunk is a doubt with the rib injury he suffered in the Seagulls' FA Cup win over Chelsea a fortnight ago.

Nerves will be jangling ahead of the latest instalment of this ancient South Coast Derby that can trace its origins all the way back to 827AD, when Subseaxna Albion drew 1-1 with a West Saxon all-star XI, featuring none other than Ethelred the Unready in goal.

As the match moved into time added on for plague deaths, the the West Saxons were leading 1-0 when Ethelred was beaten at his near post by a quickly taken free kick and the bitter rivalry we know today was born.

You don't get this kind of thing on other teams' matchday threads.

I always wondered where Ethelred got his epithet from. Every day's a school day on NSC.
