I think what the 'get it forward' brigade moan about is when Bridcutt or Dicker have the ball in midfield and have acres of space in front of them, which they don't run into and look instead for a sideways or backwards pass. I know this is how we have played for nearly two and a half seasons, and it has served us well in that time, but Shirley there is scope to move the ball more directly and a little bit quicker Man Utd lost the title on goal difference last season, so as someone pointed out earlier in the thread, we need to be racking up as many goals as possible against the lower echelon teams, while we have the chance

I don't want to piss on anyone's parade and yesterday was a very professional performance and was very good viewing. But we beat Barnsley not Blackburn. That's the same Barnsley that will do very well to stay up and quite possibly the weakest team that will come to the Amex this season. That is all, well done the lads.

My first AMEX experience today. What a day to choose.

It would be easy to moan tongue in cheek that Ashley barnes should spend less time making clearing headers in his own penalty area when he should be up front scoring goals. Admittedly I haven't seen them much recently, but I think it is the best I personally have ever seen a Brighton team play.

And even if the team you are playing is not up to much, it still takes something to score 5. Isn't it the mark of a good team to win and win well the matches they should be winning, instead of coming out with "a disappointing draw against lowly Barnsley.

Just think what it might have been like if we had Vicente playing and that big forward that everybody wants. But we did well - very well - without them.

One massive and major difference yesterday was that Barnes was playing higher up the pitch and was alot closer to CMS compared to many other matches and that's the reason why he played so well.

He is a striker not an attacking midfielder and he keeps proving time and again that of he is played in the correct position that he will score and create goals for his strike partner as he has done for the last 3 seasons for us!

We were discussuing this aswell he looked a lot more confident being able to concentrate on scoring, without having to drop back and help out the defence

Barnsley beat 'Boro a weak ago, they aren't great but no mugs either.

Judging by the time you posted that, I'd guess you were sitting behind your keyboard and not at the game.

Whilst it was a f***ing brilliant day, IMO the first two goals were down to the keeper,(good shot from Bridge, but in his interview he said it was mis hit, and no championship keeper should be conceeding that from that distance), both CMS' were turning in shots going wide from Barnes, only the fifth goal had quailty about it. Kuzczsak made a couple of decent stops, but did their keeper? I don't recall him making a save.

Whilst the scoreline suggest otherwise, it was hardly a five goal battering. We've created twice as many chances in each of the first two league games, and drew blanks.

The big difference yesterday, for the first time in a while, Lady Luck was smiling down on us.

The biggest plus of of yesterday for me, was not the result, but was the fact that CMS and Barnes both got two, no matter how fortunate they were (one lucky and good good finish for each), hopefully that fills them with confidence, and they can go on to have great seasons.

We've played four games now, but I think I'd like to see us play another 4 or 5 before before getting too excited over that result. Did yesterday define our season? No. But hopefully it may have kick started it.

Just a thought here and please shoot me down as fit but didn't we actually play with 2 out and out forwards yesterday as opposed to one up front and another withdrawn to midfield most of the time.
I suspect Gus thought our midfield could handle it yesterday.
We might even see a bit more of it if Crofts fits the bill.

Gus immediately said we still need a striker, and he is 100% correct... Barnsley were poor... we were unlucky against Hull and Cardiff, but we need more fire power...

I wonder if there are any strikers that play the majority of the season upfront on their own who get 20+ goals a season? I would like to guess not many at all.
