The summer I left school a lad from our village died in a motorbike accident on the way home from work, he had ordered the record from a shop in the village and it arrived after his accident, they played it at his funeral because it was one of his favourites.

The day he died it had been raining really heavily and his mum phoned his work to say that she would drive over and collect him, but he had already left. In the record there is a line about it being "too late to stay", which sadly summed up the situation as he had waited for a while but left when the rain eased a little.

Even though that is over 20 years ago I still can't bear to hear the record and will either turn off the radio or leave the room. It wasn't as if the bloke was a friend of mine, he was in my brothers' year at school, but everyone knew and liked him, he was the sort of person you couldn't help but like.

I agree with "The Living Years" by Mike & The Mechanics, but the worst one for me has to be "Walkaway" by Cast. They played it over the footage of the last ever Goldstone game on the news and everytime I hear it it brings back the sad memories of that day.

Actually just reading Starrys post has reminded me of another one. As a 33 year old bloke I didnt think I could actually cry at a song but the 911 version of DJ Sammi's Heaven (candlelight remix) is just about as sad as it gets and has brought a tear to my eye every time Ive tried to listen to it (still havent got to the end of the song)

Its strange though that even if you know a record coming on is going to make you cry because of the loss of a loved one (my sister in my case) you still feel the need to listen to it.
Thats what happens in my case anyway. I feel like I have to try and bear it. I never do really.

Oh absolutely.

I was out shopping for new school uniform for my other children before school went back and we'd been for the dresses and trousers and I was thinking in my head how I wouldn't do this with Anastasia then we went to the shoe shop and they were playing the Disney CD and that Peter Pan song came on. I wanted to leave so I could cry but I couldn't so had to sit through it.

Ugh.

How could I have missed that one from my list?

One of the few cover versions I've ever heard that surpasses the original in every conceivable way.

Watching the video for the song knowing that it was the last video that 'The Man In Black' ever made (I think), you would have to have a very hard heart not to feel some kind of emotion whether you like country music, or Johnny Cash's music, or not.

In the early seventies, Mrs. Miller broke from the major record labels and went out on her own. She was determined to make it with straight material and a new image. Two 45 singles were released on her own label- Mrs. Miller Records, but the sales were disappointing. Mrs. Miller eventually disappeared from the spotlight.
