Songs that just appear to be cynical marketing ploys

I was listening to Radio 1 this morning and I heard the new Take That song, 'Greastest Day' and have to say it's appalling. I'm not too averse to a bit of Take That, but this 'song' seemed to be totally lacking in anything decent.

This got me thinking that a song like this only exists to scoop up the fees and royalties when some bod working as a tv producer picks up on it and it gets used before any major final or tournament on tv, with its line, "This could be the greatest day of our lives" repeated over and over. Thus it's nothing but an unpleasant cash cow.

Are there any others that fit this category?

Funny you should mention this, i was just talking to a workmate about the tendency of British bands to write songs about America, which invariably have 'America' somewhere in the title. Always seems to me like a blatant ploy to try and squeeze onto MTV. Razorlight - take a bow

Edwin Starr, 'War'. The most evil and cynical songwriting ever. Bound to be played during every conflict, what an evil bastard! Profiting from DEATH.:rant::rant:

I can't remember which band said it but...The Kooks - complete fakes and just a marketting tool.

There was also a song on Eurovision (god why did i watch that) called 'Europes living a celebration' which I felt might have had some alterior motives.

"Old McDonald's Had A Farm" - nothing but a cynical ploy to wean toddlers onto junk food.
