Some interesting numbers re The Amex...

I've just checked my e-card spending history. So far this season, I've off-loaded £326.30 into the Club's coffers - most of it on scoff and drinks. Plus the occasional cash transaction.

Sad to say, I agree. :(

Somewhat chaotic in Dick's. :nono:
Yes on both counts. WSU was severely short of pies at all stages. Dick's was farcical with a half hour wait to get served from 6.10pm to 6.40pm.

The incompetence is so blindingly obvious it can be very frustrating. Why no pre-poured pints or pairs of staff pouring/taking money in Dick's...?

I enjoyed going straight to the e-cash only till in WSL about 20 mins before KO, while others muttered in the other queues.

They really need to push this more AND when you don't have to find cash/receive change, the whole transaction takes less than a minute. This would cut down on everyones queueing time.

WSL much better last night got served quickly and easily in the e card Q. Also staff seemed more clued up. I have sent a fortune this year and look forward to spending more...

Me and my brother are a prime example of why the club are doing much better than expected.

At Withdean, we would arrive 15 mins prior to kick off, get a soft drink, then leave straight after the game.
At The Amex, we arrive an hour early, buy a pie and a pint (or soft drink for evening games), then hang around for a pint or two after the game on Saturdays.

I never expected to be spending £10 a game on refreshments, but it's because of the quality of products available that I do. If they were offering Pukka pies and carling, I would go elsewhere.

Reasonably priced as well, not cheap but not excessive. I would say I average £8 per game.

Will the site ofter a total spent or do you have to manually calculate. My figure will also not include match day program, two half time draw tickets and beer purchased from the cash only tills.

I reckon the cash back has also paid 1 or 2 of my cup tickets.

In this day and age with all the grief I get at work etc - there is no better tonic for me than standing in the
concourse of WSU pre-match with a pint. I think I might have cracked up a long time ago without this to
look forward to.

The football ain't bad either <snigger>

not forgetting all the conferences and meetings etc on non match days totalling aprox 1.5m/year. reading this thread a lot of people mentioning queues, the amex is definatley too small!

I have a feeling there were new staff in there. Certainly Debs was dishing out the bollockings.

Incompetence is a bit strong, to the point of being wrong. It's an abberation that Dick's was such a mess - normally, the staff in there work very well.

I was only judging on what I experienced last night. If the staff/management are normally competent then that is good to hear.

It really has been a season of of epic success on so many fronts. We were talking about this last night - the club has loads to learn from year one - but like any business you would expect it to improve once it has clear data and factual evidence to go on - i suspect that the improvements will make a difference this year. The four of us that go together have probably done something in the region of £1500 between us on refreshments this season at home games. At Withdean that was realistcally £100 over a season on refreshments. It makes you think how huge an impact that this must have across the board for the clubs coffers.

Think you're right. I got to the front of a kiosk queue about 7.20pm (having just left a legion of happy kids and adults in the club shop BOGOF extravaganza - belting idea that) I was served by a pretty little girl, seemed a shy timid little thing of (if I had to guess) middle eastern descent. She was being shadowed/guided by a fellow employee, however he also had his own very busy till to man. He was doing his best to provide basic language interpretation (her grasp appeared very weak). I had witnessed the chaps immediately in front of me have a lengthy service experience with the poor girl due to her serving Harveys instead of the ciders they had asked for (should have taken that as a warning, but once you're locked in a queue!). Mine experience wasn't much better. The concept of the pie and pint deal was completely lost on her (as was the existence of something called a chicken balti pie). Took 6 or 7 mins to get served (after her guide helped reverse a completely naused till transaction and re-loading my card with an overcharge re-imbursement). After being told the balti was not available (by her instructor) my alternative chicken and ham turned out to be the balti anyway!

Obviously new staff have to learn somewhere/sometime, but that evening game must have been a wholly frightening experience for the girl. I felt for her, and while it was not a massive problem to me, I imagine quite a few people got agitated with her through the night as it led to two tills queues being poorly servied. Just not sure how far that sort of approach to staff training really gets anybody.

.....i sometimes go to the bar to get the pre match beers in on route to my table, as the wait for the waiting staff can be a tedious 7mins if the maincourse is being served........... bupa is supa

To be fair, on Wednesday evening there were a lot of different staff on the tills - Uni Holidays maybe?

Shame they took down the 'Smartcard payment signs' as they were working well.

I hate to moan, but there are SO many SIMPLE things that could be done to increase Sales and revenue, that's it's frustrating.

I know the sales have FAR exceeded expectations, but just because you've done well, it doesn't mean you can't do better.

Used to arrive at Withdean ten minutes before KO and buy a tea every so often, plus the odd plate of chips when desperation took hold. Now, I get there at least an hour prior to KO if possible, have a pie and a couple of pints before the match, a pint at half-time and at least one pint afterwards.

No wonder I'm so bloody skint! :p

As one of the oldsters who doesn't add much to the Compleat Todgers matchday experience, can I add that I arrive at the ground twenty minutes before kick off, have three pints of Harveys to add to those taken at the Lord Nelson, don't often eat a pie,but do have time to reflect on the fact that at a lot of clubs at my age I would get concessionary prices, but at the Amex I do not.

Off with their heads !
