[Albion] Solly's Future Plans

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
it was only a few months ago when they were clawing out of the relegation zone.‘

Really?!??????

It’s almost like the writer has invented the whole ‘interview’, quotes included.
I’d be inclined to file this under rubbish.

How many of you bemoaning his ambition we’re desperate to offload him pre season when there was talk that clubs were interested?

There's a difference between having ambition to play for a bigger club and saying it in an interview, especially whilst picking up wages and sitting on a treatment table.

It's just a bit unhelpful isn't it. I have no problem if that is how he feels, it just doesn't really need to be said does it. If you have ambitions then let your agent put the feelers out privately to clubs.

People using the work analogy are missing the point. I imagine most bosses wouldn't mind if you privately told them you wanted to work for a bigger company one day. They probably would mind if you put it on social media where your customers could see it.

It used to go down like a cup of cold sick when Gus would say in the press that he would like to manage Chelsea one day. Of course we all KNEW it, it's just not great to read whilst they are your player/manager.

There's no outrage here. Just a sigh and a "oh solly".

I don't understand the outrage, the club probably helped him write that answer. Most interviews these days are scripted. The interviewer sends the questions they're going to ask in advance, giving PR teams enough time to prepare. If they were all off the cuff, that would either be seriously boring as nobody would answer the questions, or we would be getting breaking news every day.

All this arguing about Solly’s comment about wanting to play for a bigger club, he has already achieved this......he plays for Brighton and Hove Albion, he was with Crystal Palace as a kid. :)

Love the way you managed a ' classic rawk ' analogy. Was that that you who managed to shoehorn into another thread about the man in black recruiting Graham Bonnet into Rainbow?

I tend to shoehorn Ritchie and Lordy et al into most of my work these days, I’d say life imitates art more often than we’d care to believe.

As for March, Solly really is the hardest word ... it’s a sad, sad situation but I can’t blame him for trying to burn the sun now can I ?

You mean the club helped the writer to say ‘we clawed our way out of the relegation zone a few months ago’?

I don’t think so. I’d be surprised if the writer even contacted Solly, let alone the club.

That's not something you say in natural conversation

Why?

Re. the work analogy, you're right that it misses the point, but that's because companies don't have supporters. The customers of a company won't give two shits about whether staff at said company would like to move on, unless they're claiming it's because they're incompetent or generally awful. Which Solly very clearly isn't doing.

It's only an issue because a section of supporters choose to take it that way, and that's not Solly's problem. Let's face it, out of 30,000 people at the AMEX you could probably find some people who'd strongly object to him saying that he rescues drowning kittens and gives free hugs to lonely people.

Even if the writer of the interview made the whole thing up, that website will always have a special place in my heart for containing two of Seamus O'Reilly's reviews covering Steve Bruce's loosely football based mystery thriller trilogy

I stopped reading after "I want to play....for a bigger club someday if I get the opportunity".

It's disloyal and disrespectful to his current employer.

Why? - seeing as another thread "snowflake generation" has been thrown about a lot; this is pretty "snowflakey".

If Solly wants that big move, then Solly needs to perform above his current level. That can only benefit Brighton who will:

1) Have a performing star in its ranks, which can rub off on other players and propel us up the league.
2) Bags Brighton a decent fee for him which can be re-invested into the squad.

You're telling me that if someone approached you with a job at a bigger rival firm and tripled your wages, you'd reject it because it's 'disloyal and disrespectful'? Like hell you would not.
