Hardly a world-beater is he? Solly may well have grand plans for his footballing future, but strongly suspect those plans may well end up being WAY more mundane IRL

I'm sure when his career is over he will be gutted about his England U21 caps, earning £25k/week and playing in the Premier League for a good chunk of his career and be upset with the 'mundane' way it panned out

That'll be a LWB then?

I think Swanny has already commented that modern football full backs are now referred to as LWB. Same difference unless you want to be pedantic....which you clearly do :lolol:

I assume there's some terribly good reason why the position's normally referred to as a LB in a back 4, even if the player spends much more of their time putting crosses in the opposition's box than they do defending.

Well that is definitely NOT Solly March then!,

Call it hysteria if you like but yes it’s a very unprofessional comment imo, just as Ryan’s was. Especially coming from a player who is having his second long lay off whilst being paid by and treated by the club that pays his wages. He’s a ****

It's hysteria.

I mean seriously, if I or most people told their managers that they wanted to get paid more at a more glamorous company, the reaction would be something along the lines of "wouldn't we all" and maybe some rumination about how other companyies are full of horrible people I wouldn't like.

Unless it's accompanied by some barbed comments about the size or ambition of the club I don't see anything to be offended by.

He may of course be a **** for other reasons. I tend to assume everybody is.

It does describe the full backs at a lot of bigger clubs though. Think about the shit Trent Alexander-Arnold gets at Liverpool for not defending properly (presumably the people who complain about this have developed the skill of omnipresence and don't think it's hard to be at both ends of the pitch at the same time), or conversely the criticism of Wan-Bissaka for not offering enough going forward.

Nothing wrong with saying he wants to play at the highest possible level and even England. I just doubt that will be much higher than Brighton's aspirations of mid table, mainly because of the recent serious injuries. Hope he comes back 100% recovered next season though.

Some seriously strange people on this thread trying to put forward a weird point of view that Solly is primarily a LB, despite all evidence always to the contrary. Oh well, what can you do?

How many assists has this winger, who was probably close to being player of the season when he was injured, had this season? How many goals, oh Wise One?

The irony of you suggesting people are seriously strange has not passed me by

Doing it in the press is not a good look, in my hysterical opinion. Compare and contrast with the potentially much better player Bissouma’s comments today.

I have zero problems with him thinking it and telling the club

If any player is asked in an interview what their professional aspirations are, their options basically are to:
a) tell the truth that they'd like to play in a Champions League team (because barring the odd big fish in a small bowl exception like Le Tissier that is the truth),
b) lie and say you never want to leave,
c) lie by omission and give some bland answer that dodges the question.

Personally I'd rather people tell the truth. If he's actively seeking out opportunities to put this out there or getting his agent to do the same in the media, as some players seem to, then I have a problem with it.

I stopped reading after "I want to play....for a bigger club someday if I get the opportunity".

It's disloyal and disrespectful to his current employer.

I'm sure all players think it. I'm sure all of us wage slaves would love to work for a bigger employer (ie get more money). But I kinow if I expressed that attitude to my boss his reaction would be "off you go then. there's the door".

I’d rather see a player performing at their best to fulfil their own potential which benefits us in a number of areas.

If he did join a bigger club, would you boo him on his return even if he left on good terms?

For the love of God, this thread is ridiculous - Solly is only being honest and I respect him for that... who wouldn't want to play for a huge club if the chance came along? I suspect even he suspects it wont but it could... and if the terms and the timing is right... good luck to him.

He's saying; here's my motivation here's why I play the game - I want to be the best and play for the best... if he can't attain that level, and 8th-10th with us is the best he/we can hope for then so be it. People overreact WAY too much these days.

Just chill the **** out, for Gods sake. The whole game is transient anyway... players come, players go... it's always been that way.

Did Glenn Hughes leave the awesome Trapeze, his band and his passion to tread the boards with the mighty Deep Purple...? you bet your ass he did... why? for shit loads of money, fame, women, drugs and to play with the absolute best. It's the way of the world.

That said, Medusa is probably his finest work and that was with Trapeze.

Oh, remember the Ides of March dear Solly.

I'm not sure what's happened here, tbh I've got lost in a coke filled Hughes laden haze.

Who is this Solly March dude anyway? LWB, LB, introverted paradoxical WBL, False winger of yore, outside left, or confused of Hermiston...? I just don't give a flying ****.

Exactly.

I'm glad he has the hunger to play for a top team. There is no harm in having aspirations and ambitions.?

I think honesty is an excellent trait, and have no issues with a footballer who comes out with the line they want to play for a better/bigger club.

It's not like this will be the first time the TBC (Tony Bloom Crew) will have heard this and I'm sure there are plenty of others that would like to play for a bigger/better team, not just isolating this to our players either.

The only problem I see is, are they good enough to play for a bigger/better team?

Have we been here before? Are you the chap who in another thread about football managed to reference Graham Bonnet and his time in Rainbow?

Love the way you managed a ' classic rawk ' analogy. Was that that you who managed to shoehorn into another thread about the man in black recruiting Graham Bonnet into Rainbow?

I don’t see how anyone can have a problem with someone wanting to play for the biggest clubs. I have supported Brighton for decades but if I was a player for the Albion on 30k a week fighting relegation and Man City came offering me 200k and chance for trophies of course I would go. Shearer had won his title before going to Newcastle AND he thought they had a chance. We don’t.
