Aw man I'm sooo jealous, can't see anything in Preston Park.
If you haven’t had a drink, drive up to Ditchling Beacon as the app is showing red again.

Edit to add if anyone wants the app

The Mile Of Oaks
From our garden Mile Oak, then quick wander up to Foredown Tower. Breathtaking, and a bucketlist item tick as well.

How do you think I feel  - after alerting everyone to the possibility that they could see the Northern Lights tonight, all I have seen in my back garden is a load of slugs and a bat - and now, look at all these incredible light shows that everyone is getting and all the astonishing colours - and I’m 175 miles further North than Sussex 😂

I am actually genuinely really happy though for anyone that is getting to see this tonight - amazing experience 👍

Have you tried pointing your phone to the northern sky and looking at the screen? It does seem to amplify the effect somewhat. I didn’t think we had anything here, but I pointed my phone at a bit if the sky that seemed a bit lighter than the rest of the sky and took some photos with no flash. The results were definitely better than what I could see with the naked eye.

Remember that a lot of these camera shots are on long exposure. Folk are picking up streaks in the sky then taking pictures. The cameras are then picking up the shades.

This.

For about the first time ever, phone cameras were able to capture an image that was better then the eye can see.

That's not to say that it wasn't visible with the naked eye, but a phone was able to make it look somewhat better.

The app is still red. If you haven’t got to get up early in the morning then stay up.

I haven't got to get up early, I'm not sure I could do an 'allnighter' anymore though! Is there an eta for it to peak again? If it's 4am then I'm not staying up that late, if it's an hour I think I could manage it.

The problem here was low cloud and fog over the forest so nothing was visible even with a phone (which I knew was the best way to see the view).

I just went back out and can now see a few stars - so took a few shots.

Pretty awful images compared to everyone else I’m afraid even upping the sat levels a bit.

But it’s something (completely invisible to naked eye though )

It’s peaking again now. Look at the stars, and you may see what looks like whisps of clouds and then look through your phone lens. The camera picks up the greens more readily, but the red was easy to see with the naked eye. Try and get away from light pollution.
