Not very up on computer software so perhaps someone can answer this question.

I'm looking to buy a Laptop ( possibly off Ebay ) and some of the Laptops are advertised with Windows XP Professional.

Does this mean it with have WORD & EXCEL ?

Someone also said that I could port Windows 98 from my exisiting desktop to a laptop !!!!!!! Can this be done and can it be done without the Windows disc ?

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

No, Windows XP Professional is the Operating System. Words and Excell are part of Microsoft Office and are quite separate. Frankly if you don't know that you are taking a bit of a risk buying on Ebay.

Actually I've got several copies of various several versions of Office as well as Lotus Smart Suite (which is crap).

You can't copy your existing Windows 98, its not that simple. Factor in that Windows 98 is now just about out of support and most new software applications won't work with it.

As far as it goes you don't need Windows XP Professional either as its the version that connects to a LAN/WAN. For pure home usage you would be better off with XP Home which will get you onto the Internet and let you do all that stuff. Its got a lower overhead and is the most stable Microsoft operating system.

If it's just for home use, I wouldn't bother with Office. Instead, get OpenOffice (www.OpenOffice.org I think). It's free, and you're quite capable of opening & saving Excel & word documents.
