So what would make NSC better?

I would hope the new infractions system will lead to that - it should be very clear to both users and moderators alike as to what certain behaviours will be 'rewarded' with.

Could it not just be the case that two moderators need to agree for a banning to happen? Rather than allowing the potential for a scenario where rogue moderators could run amok?

I know it would be difficult (maybe impossible) but it would be great if posters on your Ignore list also failed to show up when people quoted them. I put people on my ignore list for a reason, only to then have their drivel effectively re-posted by others.

I also agree with the post count removal - if anybody can demonstrate a reason for keeping them, I'd like to hear it. If people really want to know how many posts they've made, how about just showing a count in their profile, or having bands (eg 1000-2000 posts, 2000-5000 posts etc) so it doesn't turn into a race to be one post higher than anybody else?

Personally, the swearing certainly doesn't bother me (how many of us report people for swearing inside the stadia? I'd guess nobody, unless it's in the family section specifically) and the abuse, I always see that as the abuser's problem - it's normally sub-literate idiocy anyway, I just can't get worked up about it. But if it's driving good posters away, then I respect the wishes of the decent majority.

How about dishing out some warnings to some of our more superior posters for they're constant belittling of other posters for they're lack of grammer and spelling? It serves no purpous other than to incite conflict and undermine the work put in by the Albion in the community in trying to help people with learning difficulties.

I don't think there's MUCH wrong with NSC. Every summer we have the same navel-gazing debate, every year we have the same 'NSC isn't what it was' threads and every year we lose posters (for a variety of reasons) and gain new ones.

I'd MUCH rather the board was kept as it is with one forum and the Mods occasionally getting it wrong in the bans they dish out and the threads they remove. Once you start imposing strict rules you end up with people claiming that Person X should be banned under Rule 3 sub-section 2 - no more than one mildly sarcastic post per week.

Although I haven't been there for a while I'm guessing brightonfans.com is still strictly moderated. This is NOT a criticism as the people who post there obviously enjoy that environment and fair play to them. But I don't want NSC ending up as a tame discussion board where comments are passed back and forth like a plate of cucumber sandwiches. I LIKE the binfests and abuse and I think by and large the mods get it right.

You'll never please all the people all the time and we'll always lose some members and gain new ones. Keep it as it is.

Personally I don't think you need to do anything. NSC is what it is. If you don't like a posters attitude/views/humour/hair then don't read their posts. If someone starts a binfest like on the Ipswich thread simply start another thread and let them carry on being twits on their own. As for this Mods inconsistency in decisions, well really is it that important ?

I think that the main problem is that over time, people have posted on here, and enjoyed themselves, and invited their friends to post on here too (which is a great thing), they then do the same thing, and invite their friends.

Add this to the fact that people have now been posting on here for some years and built up friendships off line as a result.

This has resulted in big groups of friends that are very obvious on here, and if one of them is picked on their friends chip in to defend their mate and it escualtes into something big, much like when Drogba gets his hair touched and you get all the Chelsea players running from 60 yards to slap the opposition and scream at the ref.

Was also thinking of this, way round this is to 0 post count as I previously said and everyone has to change their usernames every say 31 days. Would mean every post gets treated as face value rather than who's posting it.

I think half the problems on NSC stem from the clickyness of it so any ways to get rid of that should be seriously considered.

.....................Keep it as it is.

It looks like most people agree with you but with the addition of two things:

- a bit more structure for the Mods to sue to aid consistency
- more input from users when they see something that they feel is unacceptable (Red Triangle)

That won't change the feel of the site, but should mean that the tits are spotted and dealt with before they can ruin a thread.

Terrible idea. That would cost a bloody FORTUNE getting the name changed on your shirt every month.

Fair point, although it wont happen.

There was a great comment on here in the last couple of days evidently from a Dad who wants his kids to grow up to be BHA fans and who sees NSC as a critical part of the process of induction. His question was "would I want my nine year old daughter to read this?". We can't legislate the whole of NSC down to that level, but we could use it as a touchstone for creating the code. Perhaps in fairness it should be a 12 year old or whatever, but the principle is a good one. And if threads are drifting into the more adult areas, then a label similar to NSFW could be used perhaps?

I'm sorry but I really don't see how anyone can condone NSC as being a "critical part of the induction" into the world of the Albion. That is simply ridiculous. As for not wanting your nine year old to read this, then restrict the sites that they can access.

NSC always has and always should be the online equivalent of life in a pub full of Albion fans, or like being at the game. As such it should reflect the conversations and language used at these places. In all honesty I would say that it's up to each parent to decide when this site is ok to be read by their kids, but perhaps a rule of thumb would be when they would be comfortable with the kids going to a game by themselves. In the meantime there is a safe alternative in brightonfans.com. NSC SHOULD NOT TURN INTO ANOTHER VERSION OF THAT SITE.

The recent use of NSFW on threads has been a good one and seems to be working. O/T (I assume meaning not about football) has lapsed a bit. I personally love the non-football chat mixed in with the footy stuff - but O/T in the title might make it clearer to people.

Of course NSFW should be used, but can't be if an image is stuck in the middle of a thread by anyone other than the thread starter. Use of common sense should apply here.

Some specifics:

Is there any need to use the "c" word and other obviously offensive words on NCS - never.
Is there ever a reason to directly abuse another user - no.
Should there be heated debate and even argument - damn right.

I don't agree with censorship at all. Some people need to grow a skin. It's just words. Outright abuse and racism aside of course.

Some other issues are more open to interpretation (or perspective). For example racism, homophobia and mysogynism can all be interpreted. The Red Triangle will come in to play here. If enough people find the comments unacceptable - and they use the Red Triangle to advise the Mods - something will get done.

This is open to abuse though. It's also incredibly subjective. One mod may not find something offensive, while another appears to be highly sensitive of everything (unless a mate posts it). Perhaps in these cases the mods should actually consult each other?

My last thought is that all topics should be mixed together, but that if the Mods feel a topics is moving to a bad place, then there should be a "bin". It's then up to users if they want to rummage through the bin to read threads.

(Apols for ramble)

It already exists.
