So the penny has finally dropped: Back up sought for Ulloa

So all the club needs to find is a striker with a track record of scoring in the Championship, preferably a Premier League reserve, who's going to make an instant impact to stop the fans from writing him off after one game, is cheap enough not to break the pay structure and upset the rest of the squad and doesn't mind being on the bench all the time Ulloa's fit as we only require one central striker.

Should be a doddle.

Becchio
Barnes
Chris Wood

None of whom are playing regularly and each of whom would do a good job. Failing that...
Shamir Goodwin
?

Becchio - won't be available with Norwich in dire straits.
Barnes - obviously no.
Chris Wood - 19 appearances this season, scored on Saturday.

Incidentally, amazing how Wood and Sam Vokes were written off by our fans and yet have done very well for themselves elsewhere. Maybe the club's judgment wasn't so bad after all.

Becchio - won't be available with Norwich in dire straits. Wasn't even on the bench on Sunday! Three strikers valued above him. So...what?!
Barnes - obviously no. Why?
Chris Wood - 19 appearances this season, scored on Saturday. Almost all as sub

Notice Benno wasn't on the bench for Norwich yesterday either.

Both good young strikers we should have signed, obvious potential!

At the point you wondered why we can't re-sign Barnes on loan I realised you must be on a wind-up.

I don't see why we can't. Hardly played for them, not on that much, proven goalscorer, almost certainly still has a house down here...

Why do people keep suggesting him. He is a poor shadow of the player he was with us and cant make the QPR team when he is fit which isnt very often and according to a QPR supporting friend is on £80k a week, which is why they are trying to out him.

You clearly aren't a romantic.

Problem...we won't get a top class striker to come here and sit on bench playing second fiddle to Ulloa. Answer....Play two up front, or we are stuck the way we are, because whoever we get will be average or crap.

Just heard from my hot sauce (vinda Lue), that Oscar has used his contacts at Barca, we are singing an up and coming youngster called Messy. He doesnt fancy, after Barca's defeat on Saturday, a relegation dogfight, so we have him on loan, till the end of the season, or till someone in the North stand slags him of for not scoring a hatrick in every game , even the ones he doesn't play in.

Really ?

Also, he hasnt exactly been at Burnley that long and was clearly primarily signed as a back-up for Vokes and Ings.

I doubt that's what Burnley told him when he signed, though. You know our Ash: not the sharpest tool in the box. He may have thought he'd be starting. In actuality, he's getting less football in a team that played two-up than he did under Poyet & Oscar with their one-up policy.

And yeah, I'd say 50 goals for us suggests he's a proven goalscorer.

53 goals in 170 games does not make him a proven goalscorer.

And if he really signed and expected to be starting games with Vokes and Ings in red-hot form, then yes he would have been a bit thick. Should either of them get injured though, then he would start for them.

1-3 ratio must make him a proven goalscorer. Close to what Murray got for us and you'd say he was proven, wouldn't you?
I imagine he must have thought he'd be competing with Vokes for playing time.
