I do not think that either should be sacked as Ii do not believe they realised what the expression meant and I have asked all of my relatives and only 1 person, a 23 year old nephew, knew what a window licker was. Should Harty get the sack I would expect Southern FM to snap him up to do similar on their show and that the phone in will either die completely or be merged to have even more non league rubbish; like Crawley, Lewes, Eastboune orWoking as the regions only league team will be Aldershot, perish the thought.
This was demonstrated on Saturday when there was very little mention of BHA prior to the match as opposed to a normal Saturday.

I had my 65th birthday dinner on Saturday and spoke to about 20 people whose ages ranged from 45 - my mother of 89 , 1 of whom is registered mentally handicapped and thinks the world of Ian. Not one of them knew what it meant it was only when we returned to one of my brother in laws house to continue drinking that he asked his son and he is 23 and knew basically what it meant but didnt consider it offensive

The only reason I knew was because of the context with which it had been used previously on NSC. Even then I wasn't sure if it was a made-up description by the poster.
Quite apart from that I think the biggest loss will be Hawes as his commentary is always clear and accurate. I hope the BBC realise this and don't act too hastily.

And whenever I have tried to explain to anyone what's going on with Hawsey & Harty, I have had to explain what a 'window licker' is. My friends must lead sheltered lives as well.
I'm not sure Harty realised the implications of saying this, and I'm absolutely positive that Hawsey didn't when he was unfortunate enough to repeat it.

Hawsey is excellent and certainly no clown. Harty is what he is, an enthusiastic amateur. Probably best you don't listen.

I had no idea what 'window licker' meant either, and I am 100% PC*and proud to be! Harty does a brilliant job, and an 'amateur' (ie someone who loves the club to bits) is exactly what we need doing that job, rather than some slick Alan Green figure. Good on you, Harty. As for northstandnorth, from the (small) amount I read NSC, you seem to have a downer on any fan who does anything...

As been said many times previously, Hawsey did not repeat what Harty said, which clearly showed that Hawsey knew the definition of its meaning.
Harty suggested some people should go lick windows, only someone who knew what this refereed to could transpose it to Window lickers as Hawsey did.
I would think this was more with preparation (or lack of).
I would guess Hawesy has most of the week to prepare what he's going to say, getting interviews with relevant players/management, etc. I don't think you can expect someone else to do all that at such short notice.
