Snooker player Stephen 'chubby boy' Lee arrested on suspicion of cheating

Maybe the way ahead is to overpay people (like in Golf!!!!!)
Clearly the £200-300k per annum wasn't enough to keep Mr Lee in the style he wished to be accustomed to, which left him vulnerable to the odd brown envelope here or there.
Shocking, if I had a talent like football, snooker, athletics I'd enter tournaments to win, not to put myself in a position to be approached by shysters and gamblers.
He's pi$$ing away his gift, and probably for no more than an evenings appearence fee?

These people have no idea how lucky they are. Thousands of people would give their right arm to be a top professional sportsman (although snooker might be difficult minus an arm!).

Our Stephen is a big lad - perhaps he got offered lots of pies to swing a game.

Funny but I don't remember the football player being arrested who booted the ball out of play, straight from the kick-off.

Apparently there was a book running on when the first throw-in would happen in the match, I think the spread-bet for 1-10 seconds was quite good odds....:glare:

I agree with this almost entirely but there is no way Stephen Lee is earning £200-£300k a year. The prize for winning the world championship is less than that and Lee has been nowhere near winning anything for years. Not that stops him being a cheating wanker though, allegedly.

I wouldnt b at all surprised if it was happening all the time, does anyone remember awhile back stephen maguire was playin against another scottish bloke and that game was being looked into. the other guy missed an easy black to win but he missed it by a ridiculious margin for someone of his ability. It has got to the stage now were whenever someone misses an easy shot I think the game is fixed.

I also think that with barry hearn trying to "sex up" snooker, games are going to be rigged to make them look more exciting , i.e 9-8 wins or players miraculously coming back from 5-0 to win 5-6.

I think that was Spurs, and the whole team were in on it.

The market was a spread bet of time of the 1st throw in, e.g. go low at 60secs - go high at 75 secs.

No action could be taken against them because they weren't attempting to alter / influence the outcome of the match.

It was Matt Le Tissier that said so in his book, but one of his players sprinted over and stopped it going out I think ??

Correct. Lee might have earned £100k-plus a year when he was in the top 8-10 in the world, but now he'll be lucky if it's 50,000. On his agents' web site it's offering him up for after-dinner speaking. That's probably just for the free dinner. Lee wanted to call his twin sons Ronnie and Reggie, but his wife put her foot down - so it's Ronnie and Alfie instead.

Be interesting to see how long this one takes to get anywhere. Maguire/Burnett investigation is still ongoing 15 months after the match.

Snooker players in match fixing shocker. This is the last thing the sport needs at the moment but the players outside the top 16 just don't earn enough. That Stephen Maguire/Jamie Burnett match was so rigged when Burnett missed that easy black - thousands had been staked on a 9-3 Maguire win and hey, that's exactly what happened! The Racing Post printed their suspicions before the match had started as bookies were smelling a rat.

It's not the first time Stephen Lee's been in bother. The cops raided his house a couple of years ago as they had suspicions he was part of a gang, involved with marijuana - it was never proved though.

Shame if true, Lee is a great natural talent and has one of the finest actions in all of snooker.
