I don't smoke but I tihnk banning smoknig in pubs is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard.

Beer and fags go together like bread and butter.

Madness

I would refuse my patronage to any establishment that has a blanket smoking ban. With the only possible exception being football stadia.

I don't smoke either but I agree with Tinx that banning it in pubs is a crazy idea although better ventilation would be good in some pubs.

I'd be happy to see it banned in restaurants though.

As for other public places, it's already banned in most indoor ones as far as I can tell. I occasionally get a bit grumpy with the bloke in front of me at Withdean who smokes but not enough to go for an outright ban in outdoor places. There's got to be a compromise and outdoors is fine by me.

im a smoker myself agree with Dropkick Turnip ban smoking in restaurants but only ban smoking at the bar in pubs which is fair enough but to ban smoking outdoors well you can just :censored: off!

I don't smoke and I hate going into pubs where there are loads of smokers. If I spend any amount of time in the PPT I come home smelling like an ashtray.

But banning it is the most disgusting, outrageous decison I've ever heard, it's the Nanny State gone beserk.

Also we'd never see Lord Bracknell and Roz again!

Would echo the main comments here - ban it in restaurants and at the bar, but an outright ban would be outrageous. It should be up to a landlord if they want to run a non smoking establishment and let the market decide.

What really gets on my tits about this issue is the hypocrisy. They don’t propose an outright ban on tobacco because it would lose thousands, if not millions of votes, and leave a massive multi-billion hole in the government funds (I believe its about 8-10 billion). And while the EU bans advertising a legitimate product/industry, they spend millions every year subsidising tobacco growers in southern europe - WTF!

I don't smoke. However, this is a difficult one. Sure, smokers have every right to smoke if they want to but non-smokers also have a right not to have to breathe in the fumes. If smokers are willing to put their health at risk, that is their choice but, personally, I don't want to be subjected to the fumes which, apart from being a health risk, make the atmosphere intolerable in a confined space, especially when it's crowded.

There really is no compromise. Other than having smoking and non smoking bars, there is no answer. However, as someone else said, it would be a problem if there are smokers and non smokers who want to drink together!

The sooner smoking becomes a thing of the past the better. A disgusting habit and a complete waste of money!
