If you don't like smoke don't go to pubs simple as that. All you people using the second hand smoke argument what the f*** are doing in pubs in the first place?? Having half a coke

Everything these days is supposed to be bad for us, soon we'll be being told we can't use toothpaste because it causes blindness in later life or something similar!

I'm more than capable of making my own mind up about whether I deem something to be good or bad for me thank you very much. I don't need some sandle wearing tofu eating one legged lesbian at Westminster making my mind up for me.

Smoking isn't anti social. The smoking ban IS anti social! Last Sunday I went to the pub with 3 mates who all smoke. As I mentioned previously I don't so once every half an hour or so they upsticks and went for a fag leaving me sat on my todd waiting for them to return. It certainly didn't improve my pub going experience!

If we except this then what next?? Banning booze from pubs?

Actually I wasn't for or against the ban but at the same time why should somebody else's habit prevent me from going where I want ? I admit that of recent years I haven't bothered with pubs much because of the smoke but the smoking ban is more than just about pubs isn't it ? I would have preferred to see smoking and non smoking pubs but I would definitely want to see an end to smoking in other public places such as transport and the like.

The downside of this smoking ban is the loss of tax revenue but there are a hell of a lot of people who see smokers as lepers. I guess like God Botherers as long as they keep their hobbies to themselves they don't bother me.

Except there's people ten yards downwind smoking your smoke and they've never even been introduced to you. Bar-staff are on near enough minimum wage and up to now have had little option but to grin and inhale it. The biggest whingers about the subject I've come across so far are the bar staff in my local!!

Before although they couldn't smoke behind the bar, they could go out collect some pots and have a smoke. Now they can't do that.

Seriously pal if you are that worried about second hand smoke are you worried about liver disease from excessive drinking?

Personally I couldn't give a f***, something out there is going to kill us, if that be lung cancer, liver disease or a freak ironing board incident something out there is going to take us, we might as well enjoy our visit on gods green earth. I would much rather sit round a table with my friends with them smoking than having them nipping off every 20 minutes.

So why don't you do yourself a favour pop the kettle on, have another mungbean & tadpole pot noddle and chill the f*** out.

I put up with the smoking in the Tap as a price to pay for being able to socialise in there pre-match with people whose company I enjoy (yourself, Doug, Ned, John Boy, THPP etc...)

The fact that I now won't have to endure it is just an added bonus.

Has it ever occured to these people that non smokers like to go to a pub and enjoy a night out and not come back smelling like you have just rolled around in an ash tray?
Soon it will be "we should be allowed to smoke in hospitals, not allowing us is against our rights as a human being *insert sob story*".

If you don't like the rules then go to a different country and smoke in pubs there, at least it'll stop me from smelling like a chimney every time I go out

That would mean they would go to the smoking pub so they can all stay in their "group" in the pub whilst they smoke.

The government will never ever tell people to stop drinking beer mainly because they make so much on tax they simply couldn't afford to start a prohibition, that's why smoking isn't banned completely. Pubs are for drinking, that's why they were invented. They weren't invented for people to smoke in. That can easily be done outside. Is it that much of an effort for smokers in a pub to walk 6 feet to the door and smoke outside? No it isn't really is it?

You've gotta love the smoking ban!

It's the perfect solution; people can go to the pub without having their health damaged or coming out stinking, whilst you still have the freedom to smoke, you just have to do so with a bit of thought for others.

I'm not so sure about your first point - the Crown and Anchor in Shoreham has been non smoking for some time now...non smoking landlord who chose that stance and its been very popular....

What saddens me is people like Maurice (can't remember his last name) who smokes a pipe in the Sovereign, whilst supping his ale....he served the country for years, flying various planes for the Royal Navy, is in his 90's and its the only time he gets out....so now he sits at home on his own.....as of the smoking ban he said.."I served my country and this is what I get?"....

Its not much effort for smokers to go outside I agree....but the heart of the matter is the loss of choice to do so...

Can you not spot the basic flaw in your argument?

PUB = Place that SELLS ALCOHOL

DRINKER = Person who frequents pub to BUY ALCOHOL

SMOKER IN PUB = Person who sprays smoke around in a random manner, not caring one little bit who that smoke drifts over

NON-SMOKER IN PUB = Person who frequents pub to buy alcohol and (up to last Sunday) has had to accept random strangers smoke as the way things are
