Just watched teh Huddersfiedl and Stockport videos. Smith may be a prospect but he needs a lot of coaching. His positioning is very poor and he goes to groun much too early - should be keeping tall longer. FDM back for now please.

I disagree. I take it by positioning you mean the goal against stockport where he was chipped. To be fair, I think he had come out to narrow the angle and even though he was caught in no-mans land when the guy turned back past the defender, the finish was pretty amazing.
Smith is 26, was motherwell's 1st choice keeper for a number of years and played over 100 times for them, including in the uefa cup. To call him a 'prospect' isn't the right word, give him a run in the team and he'll get better.

Tbh Smith does sem to have crap postioning but looks like an excellent shot stopper.

Good at penalties I would say. I still think he goes down much too soon on the one on ones. And he has had loads of them in the last 1.5 games due to the most woeful defence.

I think if the defenders closed down the approaching stockport players, smith wouldn't have felt the need to come off his line into inappropriate positions.

However, their fourth goal was an exact replica of a run moments earlier, first time round smith went to ground too early, as an experienced 26 year old, he should have had the smarts to stay on his feet longer the second time, learning from his previous mistake.

Having said that I think with a decent defence he is as good as Kuipers.
