I agree, whats the point in giving him such a hard time. It is pointless judging him whilst hes playing behind a faultering back four. If he makes the same mistakes behind an on form defence, then i think you can start making a judgement.

I don't know whether he'll come good or not, maybe he's already had too traumatic a time, maybe he can turn things around.

I do know that people are jumping on Smith ridiculously early in his Albion career. He's had to settle in a new area, playing behind a defence that appears to have been modelled on Fred Karno's Army, and made his debut in a game where the home team was on the rampage.

Since then, there's been sniping from a bunch of fans on here and at games, which certainly won't have helped his confidence. From what I've seen of him (and I admit I didn't see last night) he's not been that bad, with very few of the goals down to him.

I agree that his confidence is shot at the moment and he probably needs a break from the first team but it's far too early to say that he's a failure. He's been on the fringes of the international team so he's clearly got some ability, the question is whether we can tap into it?

Give him a good run in the side and and we will be playing in some local Sussex league - and by park football standard he may well seem a good keeper. If however we want to play professional football I can't see it.

You can't just blame the back 4 for all the goals, he may not have been able to stop some of them but he doesn't do alot of the basics a goal keeper needs to, he doesn't organise the defenders, he doesn't call for and collect the ball, cutting out the danger putting an already struggling defense under even more pressure.

Its his poor all round ability that is the concern, as well as the number of goals. Can we afford to give him a long run of games where he continues to conceed a lot of goals before we realise he isn't up to it - put him in the reserves or even out on loan to try to get some belief and form back and once he has that back, then maybe give him another chance, continuing to play him now may only compound his problems and confidence

Stirling Albion?
Albion Rovers?

Hopefully his missus is already nagging him about not being able to settle down here, and wanting to go back 'oop north' - a long way 'oop north'!

Sorry, he might be a really good bloke, and even possibly a good goal-keeper by Scottish goal-keeping standards, but not for us. Should have kept Sully. Pelling in for the Charlton match if Kuipers stil not fit.

The stats are damning; saw the goals from the Naarwidge match on SSN; a good goal-keeper would have saved at least two of the goals - they would have been good saves, but isn't that what we employ a GK for? Perhaps - being kind - he's unlucky - but do we need an unlucky GK? (if you're good enough you make your own luck anyway).

There is no way that we could throw Pelling into the team either against Rushden or Charlton. We need our strongest team possible against Rushden so that we ensure that we get the opportunity to draw a big club with big gates and loads a money for the 3rd round. If he played against Charlton he would probably end up being slaughtered if we lose, which is a distinct possibility, and this will do more harm than good on his progress.
