brief return.

In all seriousness what is the point in debating with you. Those who agree on corporal punishment will always defend their actions and any point I make is called daft, I\'m called a **** and told to f*** myself. Why would i bother sticking on this thread to be mocked by a bunch of buffoons talking about debate when they don\'t know the meaning of the word?

Well when your response accuses me of being narrow minded and fixated with the priveledge of inflicting pain on my children, as if this is the first thing I am just WAITING to do, then dont expect an overly polite response when you are so wide of the mark its not even funny, bucko.

When I posted an opinion that I thought hitting a child was child abuse immediatly I get called a **** a wanker etc. So don't be surprised when you don't get the most polite posts either.

Does it hurt?

No!

It works as a shock, because it's embarrassing. It's not about inflicting pain, and if they are sat there in pain afterwards, then I think you've gone too far.

Ok but don't you think being physical to embarrass (spel?) a child is wrong?

No. If they don't like it, they won't repeat whatever they have done wrong that led to the smack. That's the point.

Because you used the phrase "child abuse".
This is a feature of your debating technique, to deliberately use highly emotive language and phrases.
It should be no surprise, that having used these emotive triggers, you get an emotional response in turn.
It sucks the life out of what could be an interesting discourse, and turns it instead into "car crash" entertainment.

As I said before, you'll probably want to brush up on your debating technique.

Good point indeed!

I don't like smacking, never have never will, but I'm not going to call those who choose to use it (in an appropriate manner) child abusers, many of our parents used it well (as some people on here have attested) and I wouldn't call any of them some of the things that have been said! No wonder the response was as aggrieved as it was!

On the rare occasion my boys got a slap from me it was it was nothing hard but just enough to let them know they'd crossed the line, It never done them any harm and as old as they are now they still know not to cross that line with me.

Nibble, Nibble, Nibble, I'm not sure if you've by now flounced off the site but in case you're still watching, here goes my thoughts...

I'm sorry, but how can you possibly have much of a valid opinion on people's parenting habits re: disciplining children if you don't actually have any of your own? I've got two kids and I do not smack them. However, I am prepared to offer the benefit of the doubt to those of us on this forum who also have children and consider that a mild smack can sometimes work, although I agree that a "beating" is way over the top and I don't think there's many on here who would argue with that?

Many of us have very high moralistic views and ideologies regarding many aspects of parenting but, lets be honest, until you actually have kids, you don't really know how you are going to do a lot of things, as I'm sure others would agree. For instance, I always said my kids would not eat sweets or junk food or watch too much TV. The reality is they DO eat some sweets (as a special treat, normally), they DO have the occasional Happy Meal, and they probably DO watch a little too much TV at times.

But my kids are fine and healthy and happy, so what's wrong with that?!?

Waits for people to crucify him re Happy Meal comment.....

I can tell you that Nibble will not be reading this as he is at home with man flu.

But can I just say, why do so many parents on here think that if someone doesn't have kids they have no right to an opinion on how kids should be bought up?
