My love for Russell Slade has taken a slight hit today, if I'm honest. He did a brilliant job in keeping us up, only he would have done it. I love him for what he's done. But I do worry how many players he thinks he can sign this summer, losing Hinshelwood, Sullivan and Loft amazes me in my opinion, absolutely amazes me.............and for the first time I'm starting to doubt his long term suitability.
Have to agree with that, but only a very slight twinge of doubt at this stage. I'll just keep saying over and over to myself, "He's the manager, so he knows more about it than I do!" I am disappointed that Loft, Frazer and Sully have gone though, and a bit sad about Hinsh, though I guess the writing was on the wall with his injury record.

Good thread and a valid question. I think the answer is .... we'll have to wait and see. He's certainly burnt his boats by releasing Fraser, Loft, Hinshkewood and Sullivan, but if the replacements are miles better then, yes, he's still a hero. However if, like last season, we get another set of players who look good on paper but turn out to be another load of journeymen pro's looking for a payday then he'll have undone all the good work he did in keeping us up - and he (or his replacement) won't have Fraser and Loft to fall back on.
Yes, good shout. My thoughts too.

I think there are alot of unrealistic people on this forum. Yes, we want to be at the top and some of the players released have been because they're not good enough to be first team players, in their opinion. Fine, but you need to build a squad of players if you want to challenge, and the FACT is we don't have the budget to have a big squad of players and therefore keeping the likes of Hinshelwood, Sullivan and Loft who would provide cheap cover and provide a local feel to the squad aswell, would be cost effective and smart business. Some of the people released today are the reason we've stayed up, the performances of Loft and Fraser in the midfield got us through to the end, neither of them were in the team for the spells of the season which got us at the bottom of the league.

Some of you are being really over the top in celebrating the misfortune of good honest professionals, these people have put their all into the club and their commitment and effort is the reason we've stayed up. In my opinion, Fraser isn't good enough to be a professional footballer, so I'm not suprised he has gone. Doug Loft and Hinshelwood are both, without a shadow of doubt in my mind, good enough to atleast provide squad cover, and I'm disappointed they've been released. I'm disappointed, though not suprised, Jake Robinson has been released because he too gave everything he had for us and represented the club well. I think the managers of recent years haven't favoured him and his career has stood still if not gone backward, so a change is probably best for him anyway.

As for the personal insults directed at me, I'm staggered at how offensive some of you are. I can't believe some of the idiotic things people say at times on here, if you don't agree with someone's opinion, fine. Internet forum, voice your views. But if the best you can do is tell someone to f*** off.... pathetic, frankly.

In response to your first points; how do you know that "we don't have the budget", some might say we DO have the bugget and we are won of the better off clubs in the bottom two leagues. Remember Stockport, now there is a team with no money. We have spent some quite big bucks in the last two seasons. 300k for Murry, 150k for Mcnulty and getting lots of players on the wages bill through loan signings and free end of season players. There is a WAGE bugjet at least and we have payed some pretty big money for a club with no ground.

Your second point is valid, although you are taking a too personal view point on it. In regard to the players, yes its sad they have been released and there is a resesssion on, but they will find work, whether as a footballer or a sporting coach at a school. Someone will employ them. Also fans and people in gerneral look at in the veiw of entertainment and wont naturaly look at indervidual players lives.

There is months to go before the start of the season. How do you know that we have not already agreed contracts with other players? You playe champ man...sorry football Manager right? How often to you sign players durying the closed season and just wait for them to turn up at the club? It could be the same. Plus, there is plenty of time. Officaily the season has not ended for christ sake! Play offs cup finals prem league.

I cant only agree with your third point. There are some right buggers on here. Just ignore them.

That's kind of the point... I don't take it personally, I couldn't care less. Debate is good, but childish name calling is pointless and boring. If you've got an opinion, share it. If you want to be an internet thug and start calling people names, sod off.

Super Steve Earle, what's your take on all the released players?

Hey Ninja. I've always liked Robinson, but I can't wait forever for him. I think Loft & Frazer & Hinsh are good enough and Sully has the potential, but I'm trusting RS to find better versions to replace them. I'm genuinely sorry they are leaving, but I'd rather not take the chance of another awful season like last year. They could have been squad players and as individuals may have broken in to a refreshed team next year, but I think RS is ruthless so I'm going with his judgement and look forward to the newcomers arriving. As a fan I would have kept them, but if my job depended on it??

Firstly, , cracking post.

We've been well backed in the past few seasons, and I would hope we will be again. But I don't really want to take that for granted, especially given the huge drain on resources that Falmer is, and the lack of earning potential from Withdean. We do have wealthy backers who have been more than happy to back us all the time, and that's absolutely brilliant. But naturally, I err on the side of caution and worry that we might not neccessarily have the money to sign a high number of experienced, quality players at this level. Just have to try and keep the faith in our owners and management I suppose, easier said than done though.

I don't think I am looking at it personally at all, but others seem to think that too so maybe I am. I'm so sorry to see the players going, I wasn't expecting Loft, Hinshelwood or Sullivan to be in trouble, I really thought all 3 were going to get contract offers, I'm sad for them all I really am.

That's a thoroughly good point though, I do play football manager and I tend to snap up players in february. So, maybe Slade has started talking to players, I hope he has, or hope he has been keeping an eye on the release lists from our rivals. Ultimately, only time well tell. I am always like this at the end of the season though, all my favourites tend to leave.

Very valid points, he's been bold today has mr Slade, I just hope he signs the players to back up his decisions from today.

No he definitely isn't still a hero. I just can't believe he has released all of the worst players at the club ( bar Donkey and Dixon ). What has happened to Russel Slade, I mean you always need a fat left back and a ginger in the team.

Seriously what a stupid thread. He has done what Micky didn't do and release the drift wood and i have every confidence that he will replace the give away players with some solid professional's who aren't just cheerleaders like Fraser.

He's got a lot of work to do over the summer now to replace all these players, Hinshelwood is TWICE the player Hawkins and El-Abd are, yet those two both stay! It's a great injustice, but the frustration of them getting long contracts. Really disappointed. All a game of opinions.

They are both under contract, so unless we are going to pay them up, they were not going to get released today. They may well get transfer listed and possibly the best thing to do with Hawkins is loan him over the summer to a League of Ireland side, as they play summer football and at least then he gets some games.

Hopefully we wil pay Hawkins up.

Spelling mistakes can be ignored when someone has actually put some thought into a post.

Well, this is it. If you look at the club, you'd think we would be potless. And yet, we have spent more on transfer fees in the last couple of years than everyone else in the league, bar Leeds and some more of the top sides.

We will indeed, whatever happens, next season should be bloody good fun!

No you just post an awful lot of rubbish, which gets picked up on.

Oh and you accused people of lying on the thread about stewards a while back.

Still carry on, inbetween playing Football Manager and telling us all about your love for Swindon Town.

Quite honestly, however and whatever we feel for the guys that have and havnt been given contracts.....its tough !
The manager has made his decisions ( and we have put him on a massive pedestal ), and of course these decisions are never going to be universally popular.
Ten days ago, he was the greatest hero this club has had for ages, so lets just let him get on with the job of rebuilding this club.......its what we wanted ,and asked for !
As soon as he makes some tough decisions ,people are asking why....
f***ing hell !!!!!!!

Honestly pal, get a life!
