Slade and Sussex passion

Could it be that Russel Slade has realised that to get out of this mess the Sussex boys would be the ones that would have the passion.

Playing Hinch, Virgo, Elphick, Cox, Loft, Fraser and El Abd with 'old boys' Kuipers and Hart alongside has galvanised the team.

To see the incredible passion that the likes of Tommy Elphick had when we scored the second tonight and the way Virgs cajoled Hinch back on his feet after he seemed to have hurt the knee again together with the whole team's pumped up celebrations at the end made me realise that this is a Sussex thing going on and Russel Slade has focused on this.

Not for a very long time have I witnessed such raw emotion and pride in wearing the Brighton colours. And Russel Slade's reaction at the end way a joy to behold. A memorable night indeed.

And where has this Gary Hart come from????? What a performance again. The man is a legend. Skill, pace and tactical guile. Too late for player of the season??

Would agree with everything bar the part about Adam El-Abd. I think him not playing tonight shows that Slade is not convinced by him.

I am amazed and delighted by what Slade has achieved so far. I was sceptical about his appointment but have been won over. I wonder though, is he a manager who is at his best in adversity - a man who can drag the best out of average players when their backs are to the wall? A leader in the trenches?

What would he have done if the squad had been fully fit (eg Fozzy and Murray back, McNulty fit etc)? If he pulls off the miracle - and I think given how far off the pace we were it would be night on a miracle - is he a man to take what is actually a good squad and push us forward?

Just asking - I'm all for giving him a contract and definitely not taking Gannon on.

Totally agree. Slade has come in and shown all the passion that was missing during Micky's wretched second coming. And pulled us back from the brink with a sorely depleted squad. It will be a travesty if he isn't given a contract for next season.

I agree with the original sentiment here.
Slade has put back together what MA dismantled, a backbone and an identity.
Just imagine what we could have achieved if MA hadnt tinkered so much.
Case in point. Adam Virgo, a centrehalf, played everywhere bar goalie.....and centrehalf!
Personally I welcomed him in, was very happy by his openess and passion even when we were loosing. Now I believe that regardless whether we stay up or go down this man is a real gem and with a good budget behind him, can do great things. Do the right thing Dick.
