Skyfall - The New Bond Film

I don't get it. Every time EON resurrect the Bond franchise for the next generation, they call on director Martin Campbell who did a great job with Goldeneye and reached 007 perfection with Casino Royale.

Why they then decide to hand it over to different directors after that and lose all the elements that made those first films in both Brosnan and Craig's slate of Bond movies, I don't know...

I like Marc Forster as a director but QoS was poor, and I'm not so sure about Sam Mendes. Great directors, but Bond?

Each Bond reflects the era in which it's made. I like to think that's the beauty of the franchise. When I watch early 80s Moore, it feels atmospheric. Likewise, Brosnan's cheesiness was emblematic of the late 90s. Craig is a more serious Bond, but I think it is right that it doesn't try to go down the Bourne route. It can't compete with Bourne, it needs to work on its own terms.

And if that means audiences turn away from Bond films, so be it. But don't dress up a Bourne knock-off as a Bond film, it just won't work.

And isn't it time for a fun henchman, like Jaws?

I'm not a huge fan of the entire series - mainly becasue they've been shown on TV too many times, but I thought DCs acting ability to be absolutely zilch in these (although I do seem to remember a film with him in that I quite liked, but can't remember what it was off-hand). All personal taste I guess, not for me.

Was it Defiance by any chance?

Daniel Craig is comfortably, for me, the poorest of all Bonds. Casino Royale was a let down, should never have been written and should not have been a Bond movie, and I paid to buy the Blue Ray. Quantum of Rubbish was rubbish, largly due to Craig, he is wrong for Bond in my opinion. Every bond before him was suave, sophisticated and had an air of something about them, Craig is just an Essex boy.

Don't get me wrong, Craig has it going on, he is a great action actor, but just isn't Bond

Craig is good as Bond but for me part of Bond that has run through all those who have played him is the humour. I like the grittier, 'Bond actually bleeds' full-on fights that Craig does over the slapstick of earlier films, but I wish once in a while he's let the mask down and say summat tongue-in-cheek. Bond is not Bourne, and should never try to be.

totally agree. DG is nearly right, just needs to add a little more intelligence, irony, and wit.

Craig is most like the Bond character in the books.

If I wanted to read a book.....

Anyway, I made my point, I clarified it was my opinion, and that's how I feel. The one, overriding problem for me is that DC as Bond is not suave, sophisticated, cool or witty, he's just a bit of an English, Bruce Willis. I didn't say he wasn't a good actor, I think he is, but in his Bond movies, if no one called him Bond, you'd never guess it was a Bond movie, you would with Moore, Connery and Brosnan.

the point (i think) BOF was making is that craig IS the most accurate portrayal of what Bond is ACTUALLY supposed to be like

it's back to basics and i like it....the "suave/cheesy" bond was becomming an extremely tired format

For me he is (Layer Cake aside) a very wooden actor, who can be excruciating to watch at times.

Casino Royale was awesome. Quantum of Solace was average. Daniel Craig is class as bond but could possibly do with a few more cheesy lines like Pierce Brosnan. The Skyfall trailer looks incredible. Can't wait to see it

Brosnan's cheesyness wasn't a patch on the quality innuendo Moneypenny and M used to throw at him.
