I have sky + multi room running off of one dish. The flat I live in is due to have all of the sky dishes removed and a communial central system installed.

We have to pay to have the old ones removed and as I want to buy a satellite system for use with my camper van could I remove the exisiting dish, lnb and cable etc and reset it on a pole for use in my camper. I could either use the digi box and viewing card from the bedroom as, if we are away nobody will be using it or even buy another receiver box, and use the other card.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

That will work BG but you might want to get one of those directional signal indicators that the Sky boys use when setting up. Dont ask me what they are called though.

The satellite directional finders are quite cheap at Maplins what I was concerned about is whether the dish would only pick up the sky satellite or others. I have read that to go to Europe you need a 60cm dish and then pick up 2 Astra 28 E i think it is.

Find a 5' length of Aluminium scaffold tube, bang it in the ground, point the dish due south and use a sat finder about £12 for quickness. Connect it all up, you need a good rectifier and battery in the motor home and bob's your uncle. It's not rocket science... Oh maybe some of it is.

You'll have to take the sky box that the card is paired to into the camper. We bought a sky box for the camper (and a 60" dish and a tripod and a signal finder) and when I put the card in from in the house it didn't like it. So you'd have to call them each time to re-pair the card to the box you want to use.

But frankly I'm chucking the whole lot back on ebay - finding the flipping satellite is a nightmare and the dish on the tripod are impossible to store in the camper on the move! I'm going for a fold down dish on the roof, 3 times the price but I don't care anymore...

Doesn't taking the TV/SKY in a camper van defeat the whole purpose of the camper van in the first place?

Yes and no

When it piddles down with rain and I'm in a race paddock in the middle of deepest darkest Doodle Land, its handy to amuse the 4 year old with a little bit of tele.

Otherwise he gets kicked out of the camper to enjoy the racing...

Yes you can, but it's a tight alignment to pick up the SKY sat birds.

On the little dinner plates of dishes you use in the south east of England its not tight at all. Try aligning it on a 1M dish! Smaller the dish, the bigger the focal point on it. You get used to it, I can throw a Sky Zone 2 dish on to Astra2 in about five minutes without a meter after working at it for too damn long.

Only premium channels are paired, the basic mixes don't need re-pairing. If they do, your card or box is faulty!

Speaking to other camper van users all of those aerials on the top of campers and caravans like the oyster are worse than useless. I have a freeview box and digital aerial but even that couldnt pick up a signal last week in Verwood (New Forest) brother in law bought a satellite system in Maplins cost £145 and that had a perfect signal. It was that got me thinking about a sky dish as we have 2 cards and 2 digiboxes with sky + multiroom so could use the box and correct card from the bedroom whilst away.

You may want to get a specific camping dish which is designed to be easy to set up. You don't have to use a Sky dish with a Sky box - they're a standard design, any post-1997 LNB (the thing on the end of the arm) will work with any post 1997 box, basically.

MYOB I have sent you a PM but basically as my sky dish is becoming surplus to requirements it seems logical to use it to save money buying another dish and LNB. I would just need cable etc.
