Worthing
Mine is free because I have the whole Sky + package and I can honestly say the broadband is complete wank. Its slow and thats if you can get connected at all. I have even been sent a new router and its still as bad as ever. Mind you its only taken 9 months to get this far with it.

had mine for a year. £10 for the top package and £5 for all landline(08s excluded) calls 24/7

broadband works perfectly and is fast and consistant,if its slow turning the router off and on again(the old NSC standby) re-sets it. Downloading films from skyanytime is free (some new films are pay for) and fast for sky movie subscribers.

I use windows mail for my Email for convenience.but that is my preference and setting my server details was no problem.

in my opinion its good value and reliable, it hasn't failed to work once for me.

neither do,or ever did, aol,tiscali.bt,freenet,virgin,ntl. or any of the others.

but at least sky gave horsham £150,000 if that helps

whatever you do, don't get sky. didn't work for six months took 4 months to go back to previous broadband (zen who are brilliant). sky were the worse company i have ever had to deal with. broken promises, charges for no service, hours and hours on hold. seriously i would support Palarse before i would switch back to sky :angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

If you are a gamer seriously steer clear. If all you want is interent access and email then fine.

I have returned mine within 4 days of getting it, and here is what I thought

* Speed is fine - not flying, but then my exchange is not great.
* Modem provided is easy, just plug it in and away you go

right thats the positives

* Modem is not configurable, you sign in with the MAC address of the router which means if it breaks you are screwed until Sky replace it and re-register you. (They have disabled all the work arounds to get your password etc as it does not exist anymore!)

* You cannot set port forwarding up (tried all sorts of configurations and then Sky tech support (joke) told me they had disabled it), so gamers, any remote applications that connect in cannot work.

* Tech support was poor to say the least.

I would look at Eclipse, Zen etc at least you are in charge of what equipment you use and how you want to use your broadband connection.

Sky broadband is great if you don't use the Sky router, which officially you're not allowed to do. However it was a matter of doing that or giving up on the service altogether so I figured I had nothing to lose either way. They are now supposedly supplying an upgraded router to new users and existing users will be getting it in the new year. If that's what user Questions got when his first one didn't work then I'm disappointed that it's no better. However my cheap router rarely disconnects like the Sky one did constantly so at the moment I'm happy. I'm on the 16Mb Max service with which I usually get about 9Mb in download speed.

hmmm yeah problem is its Sky Broadband or stick with Pipex (wont go into detail as to why), I'll research the Port Forwarding issue and other bits as there has to be ways around it....I hope! Being a gamer I need those things.

Thanks guys so far, anyone else with Sky BB please do tell

I changed from Pipex to Sky. Service is much better.

I did have problems initially though. Once I switched off UDPNP (or whatever its called) and disabled the wireless security (I locked it down to MAC address on my laptop and switched off the broadcasting instead) its worked like a dream. I don't do much gaming though unless the odd game of battlefront counts.

I have sky broadband and have had no problems, I pay the £10 for the faster speed and unlimited downloads. I get about a 10 Meg connection which is fairly reliable and is lovely and fast for downloading stuff off t'internet plus its £20 a month cheaper than my old 2 Meg connection I used to have. Had it for over a year and had no real problems with it at all.

Marc,

See Bardos comment about the old routers. Well having had the new ones, they have locked them down a lot further. Bardo, you will NOT be able to use your own router as it connects using the MAC address of the router, not username and password (the MAC address is hardwired in).

I have configured office networks routers/modems etc in my line of work and can honestly say that the software provided on the router is poor, limited configuration and heavily locked down (max 54g connection speed). It is designed for people who have no router or who really only want to surf the net from the next room.

I wouldn't know about port forwrding for the games, but I set up a dynaDNS name and had a simple web server working off my pc for personal use. This is pretty basic and would not work.

k thanks mate, I'm gonna contact Sky directly about Gaming issues that may arise *if* I go with them so that when the time comes that it all fails I can screw 'em over big style!

Ta for that as I hadn't picked it up from the Skyuser site. As long as the V2 ones work better than the V1's (which, judging from the responses I've seen, they do) then I'll be happy to ditch my router and run with the new.

Marc, the Sky User site http://www.skyuser.co.uk/ has some articles on port forwarding - I'm sure you'll find what you need there as it's the best port of call for anything to do with Sky broadband. It's worth registering and asking specific questions as I'm sure there's plenty of gamers who do use Sky BB.

Fastest broadband I've ever used.
Nothing wrong with the router, either wireless or via ethernet.
I highly recommend it.

Actually, you can get your Sky log in details here: https://www.cm9.net/skypass/ - enables you to use your own router.

Sky can supposedly cut the service for using your own hardware, but they've only done it to a few people judging my the forums.

I've just had to do it because the supplied router doesn't allow for an external antenna = shit reception over long range.
