Hi Paddy and Sinaed.

Our thoughts are with you and the rest of the family today. the loss of someone so young can never be rationalised, but if what you have put in the opening post has prompted someone to add their names to the donor register then that is a fantastic achievement. When dad died, as he was so young, his organs were removed for donation ( we were asked as he didnt carry a card and it was a heartbreaking decision) and his liver went to a young man who now some 19 years later is living a full life. ( mum gets a letter every now and again).

I have been persuaded by the argument that if people do NOT want to donate their organs, they should carry a card ( I appreciate the arguments, religious and cultural against this), but I think this would certainly improve the situation.

Kindest regards
dave

Each to their own, I'm not going to be much use when I'm gone so I'm donating myself to medical research. I had considered donating for organ transplants but could not bear the thought of the bun fight for my penis.

My neighbour recently donated her body to science and I thought it was a really inspirational gesture. But apparently you can't be an organ donor AND give your body to science, as I understand it. Which seem a shame, because surely medical students could still get some use from a body without a liver/heart/etc?

Your post has prompted me to sign up for organ donation (something I've always meant to do). A simple online form - can't believe it's taken me this long to sign up.

And another, took me all of 2 minutes to do so - seeing as I am a long term blood donor I also can't understand why I haven't got around to doing this before!

glad to know a few of you have now signed up as donors. it is such a simple, straightforward thing to do and it really does make a difference.

to make the decision to donate organs for someone just after they've passed, has to be the hardest thing, dave. that is wonderful that the man has kept in touch.

and thank you all for the well wishes, it is what it is, we miss her every day but are thankful for the time we had with her.

I've started giving blood again, and am having my second donation this year at Portslade Town Hall in a couple of weeks. With 3 children I couldn't live with myself if they needed some kind of transfusion, and I hadn't actually ever donated any blood. Plus you get weak orange squash and a bag of crisps, so it really is a win win.
