Whilst i was away i read in one English paper, that Sir Norman Wisdom's family had put him into a 'home' and were selling his estate and assets off. I know that Nicky Wisdom has a sports shop in Haywards Heath. Does any Nsc user know what the 'situation' is ?:albion2:

A couple of gems from Norman:

"As you get older three things happen. The first is your memory goes, and I can't remember the other two."

"I was born in London, and went to school in Scotland - I used to be dead tired when I got home at night."

From local paper over here:

SIR Norman Wisdom's son has hit back at claims friends have been barred from visiting the comedy legend.
Speaking from his sports shop in Sussex, Nicholas Wisdom said the family were obviously disappointed by reports in the UK press which claim there is a bitter rift between the star's friends and family with restrictions on who can visit him.

Sir Norman has lived in the Island for the best part of 27 years and about a month ago moved from his house in Andreas to Abbotswood Nursing Home in Ballasalla.

'He needs a settling in period,' Nicholas said. 'He needs to get into a routine at Abbotswood and for the time being we have decided that he shouldn't have visitors, apart from family, just to try and wean him of Ballalaugh where he lived.'

Nicholas spoke to his father on Sunday and said he was settling in well.

He said the situation had been blown out of proportion and some of the things reported in the UK press were ridiculous.

'It doesn't make any sense at all. The home has been looking after him beautifully,' Nicholas said.

'The most important person in all of this is my father.'

Sir Norman, 92, has a vascular dementia of an Alzheimer's type. Before he moved into the home daughter-in-law Kim looked after him. Kim and

Sir Norman's daughter Jacqueline looked at three or four homes before they chose Abbotswood.

Nicholas said it wasn't a case of there being 'an exclusion zone' around the comic legend and urged his father's friends who were eager to visit to 'hang fire'.

'Let him settle in and adapt into his routine and the routine that the home wants him to get in and that's fine. He had one visitor and it stirred him up badly. The night after this person left he had his bag packed ready to go home.'

The word 'legend' is bandied about too easily in this day and age. But Sir Norman Wisdom is a true legend in every sense of the word.

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

And a BHA supporter to boot. :) :albion2:

In fact I even reckon we should name one of our stands at Falmer to the great man. :falmer:

Don't know if this was mentioned on the other thread, but he turned up out of the blue in the directors' school room after the Hull game a couple of seasons ago. John Prescot was there receiving adulation, pie and chips for (apparently) giving us the Falmer consent. Then Sir N wandered in with a broad grin on his face. Two Jags was abandoned in a corner (actually, he took it quite well) and everybody flocked around Wisdom. Great man - Wisdom Stand has a ring to it.

Norman Wisdom = Legend, sad to think of him as having any form of Alzheimer's as I have seen what that does to you.

I agree.

I have a boxed collection of his films.

I worked as an usher at The Capitol Theatre in Horsham for a brief time about 20 years ago and got to see Sir Norman do a show there - even back then it was a box ticked of things to have done before I die.

I didn't see Steve Clark and Def Leppard in concert, I missed Frost/Nixon, but I have seen Norman Wisdom live - darned funny man:bowdown:
