Only player I've seen play for England who genuinely game 100% ever single second in every single game he was on the pitch.

I would say you've rather insulted a huge number of players there. I never saw Bobby Moore play, but I've not heard anyone accuse him of giving less than a hundred percent. What about the rest of the 1966 team? Stuart Pearce? Bryan Robson? I'm pretty sure Rickie Lambert absolutely busted his balls when he turned out recently.

Feel free to praise Beckham all you like, but please, let's not get into this "He's the only one who cares" bullshit.

I'd give him anything he wants. Deserves it all. Only player I've seen play for England who genuinely game 100% ever single second in every single game he was on the pitch.

Can't stand the little prick, but I'd put Ashley Cole in that bracket.

Clive Woodward,Steve Redgrave,Chris Hoy,Bradley Wiggins are all fantastic at what they do and have been awarded the 'sir' or Kelly Homes the 'Dame' title for doing thier job to the highest accolade. David Beckham hopefully will get his knighthood and it will be for far more than just doing his job. The man is a total legend.

If he uses his whip, could go to evens ...

SIR Beefy got his for services to sport, so why not DB?

When he moved out to LA, I heard that he bought all the tickets in first class on the flight so he, posh & the kids had the run of the place - must have cost a few bob ...

David Beckham. The best crosser of the ball ever. One of the best English players ever. The most passionate English footballer ever. The man who loved representing his country the most. A great England captain. An outstanding footballer. The best free kick taker ever. The most charitable man ever. The man who secured the Olympics. The man all of Britain wanted to see rewarded by allowing him to open the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.

None of them are even remotely close to being true.

The man who, in modern history, has been the most desperate and needy individual in UK public life to present get attention for himself at all possibly costs. Definitely true.

The daft thing is, as a private individual I wouldn't be surprised if he is a nice fella who you'd be happy to be friends with. As a public figure though, he and his modus operandi are pretty despicable

This whole 'Honours' thing has got totally out of hand. Why now days do people get these awards without an ounce of self sacrifice?
Far, far to many get these titles for looking after number one. David, as personable as he might be, has done very very well out of playing football. But hardly put his life in jeopardy has he. And the thought of his 'Posh come Chav' wife being elevated to some regal status sends my head into a spin.
In my view as cranky as I might be is that Knighthoods should be handed out a bit like Victoria Crosses. Almost never, but earned when they are. Otherwise as seems to be happening, the whole process becomes a charade and devalues the award.

There was the small matter of his charity walks which raised awareness and millions of pounds for cancer care and research and other good causes.

Becks is a good man and role model. Knighthoods have had their day though...

Becks is not worthy of anything other than the understanding of how potentially world class football careers can go dramatically downhill when the ego loses control.
He never really improved from his trademark long balls. I felt like he was the heart of Englands dire football days when you'd see him whacking the ball 95 yards across the pitch for Kerion Dyer 50 times in a match. Apart from that Greece game, Beckhams England career has nothing to mention.
When he was at Real Madrid, he was often a sub. Even in the US he was no super star in terms of his ability.
God knows why he's been made to look like a legend? To be fair though, he looks good when it comes to underpants!

Very much this, how he ever managed to assume such God like status amongst so many football fans is beyond me. He was a dead ball/ crossing specialist who rarely delivered overall. Given that for much of his England career the other 10 players on the pitch never had a chance to take a free kick or corner we were incredibly one dimensional. Add to that, as I have posted in other threads, his goal scoring record ( despite all the free kicks ) is quite poor, 17 goals in 115 appearances, compare that with Michel Platini 41 goals in 72 appearances.

If David wants to bury himself away from the spotlight helping to develop players or work behind the scenes for Engalnd for the next 30 odd years than he well have earned it. But, that's not going to happen.

I really do question how influential he was in the bid process for the Olympics. He added some publicity to our bid but so did many others and if we're realistic the real work was done entirely by the bid team. All he did was get flown out to Singapore to sign some autographs.

He is a good ambassador for the country but I don't believe he has done anything worthy of a knighthood just yet.

His greatest moment for England was the free kick to get us into the world cup. Had it been a free kick to win the world cup I'd be more inclined to support his knighthood but, truthfully he hasn't achieved anything that really supports him receiving a knighthood in my opinion.

Well aware he's won several league titles but so has Ryan Giggs etc etc. Fergie got a knighthood after 27 years at the very top of the game and deservedly so. Becks isn't on a par with Fergie in my opinion.

You're right, Fergie's shooting was far more accurate.
