To be fair that's the kind of arse you have to lick before the decision is made.
To be fair to the bloke, around the time he got sent off in the 98 world cup I (along with many no doubt) thought he was c omplete cock. Over the years the sheer amount of stuff he's done for charity, kids, the olympic bid and now the world cup bid have changed my opinion of him completely. If some nameless chinless civil servant can pick up a knighthood simply for turning up at his well paid job for a few years then someone like Beckham deserves it far more IMHO
Definitely, I really like Beckham and think he's a genuinely good bloke. If Trevor Brooking gets knighted for services to football, then there's no question he should too, although he would be unusually young to be a 'Sir' in his mid-thirties.
On a separate note, this FIFA pitch is further proof to me that contrary to all those people moaning about the rail services, this is a country that actually does things properly (generally speaking).
We have a good looking bid, with infrastructure mostly in place already. And now when it comes to presenting our bid and searching for votes, we roll out ALL our big hitters: the Prime Minister of the country, our most popular and probably most recognisable sportsman on the planet, and the next but one in line to the throne. Compare to the shambles of Putin not attending and the Iberians seemingly resting on their laurels in the belief that the hard work has already been done.
If it is turned down, FIFA are going to look very stupid if 2018 consequently turns out to be an absolute shambles elsewhere.

As someone else has mentioned, he hasn't actually won anything for his country and presided over years of failure within the national team.

He was a large part of the team the WON the Olympics for us. I think it's a very good call, as BoF says, there are loads who get it when they don't deserve it. The passion he displayed for his country is just about unparalleled, he was one of the best in the world at his job, and for someone who has little education, he (now) talks very eloquently and articulately.
If I were to elect a fantasy governement cabinet, he would be my minster for sport (Stephen Fry would be PM).

To be fair no-one has won anything for England since 66 so if Brooking gets one I see no reason why not DB. I hope he has some role in FA and shakes them up but fear he may turn into one of their puppets, like Brooking has.

What about a good old CBE or CBO or whatever it is. I think a 'Sir' is a bit much. Lets wait until he is the England manager and wins us the world cup, then i would call him Sir.
Is he not an MBE already ? I may be wrong, but I think I remember posh going to the palace in some contrivance of a piece of headgear.

I think you can have an MBE and CBE though. Sir DB just doesn't sound right. There must be more important people in football that should be honoured before him.
If Geoff Hurst can get a knighthood for, at best, a couple of games of football then Beckham definitely deserves one for all the extra activities he's carried out. He's a credit to himself, football and England generally.
Also I must admit that having watched that England bid I've changed my mind and I REALLY want us to get the World Cup now!

The caveat with Hurst is that a Wirld Cup final hattrick is just about as special as it gets in terms of sporting achievement

In this day and age when footballers misbehaving is always blamed on too much fame and money too young, he is the richest and most famous of them all and has always carried himself brilliantly.
Massively under-rated player aswell. Showed more passion playing for England than any other player in the last 10 years also. He makes me proud to be English.
