Singing practice at the AMEX

I think most Albion fans will agree that it is about time some new songs were introduced, and with the AMEX :amex: on the way what better time than to put some together. The new Elliott Bennett song has been met with mixed opinions, but it does highlight the fact that on NSC we can come up with, and introduce new songs, and this is a good thing!

What are your thoughts on:

1. A thread for people to post new songs on.
2. A thread to nominate a song
3. Songs with more than 10 (?) nominations are shortlisted
4. Shortlisted songs are voted on, top 5 (?) songs are chosen.
5. At one of the low key ramp up events, songs can be lead by someone over the P/A - a 15-20 minute singing lesson at the AMEX!
6. First game at the AMEX people have another 5 songs up their sleeve that by a general consensus are decent and worthy to be sung.

What are your thoughts? Would it be possible? Would the club allow it?

PS. Despite having the bloody Elliott Bennett song stuck in my head for the past 3 days, i do quite like it :D

I'll echo others and say - are you actually serious?

Don't mind threads with song suggestions (though usually they are full of really long songs that people think are amusing), but what's all the nonsense about nominations and shortlists? If you want a new song, then sing it. If it's good it might catch on. Done.

Also there have been plenty of new songs this year. They might not all be any good but off the top of my head, Bennett, Noone, Ankergran, Calde x 2 and Poyet have had new (new to us) songs this season. The situation with songs not getting spread around our fan base will be solved at the Amex when all the like minded fans will be sat together (North Stand and West Upper wings).

On a final note, I see many songs put up on this website but they never get sung. Are people too afraid of embarrassing themselves these days?

That would possibly be the single most embarrassing event at a football match since Mark McCammon kicked the ball against his other foot, blocking his own shot on the line.

I'm cringing just thinking about it.

Time to give up NOW! Over the past year lots of us have started a number of threads with ideas for songs and chants and without fail they got shot down, criticised or told 'it will never catch on'. I guess this are the same people that just sing 'Albion, Albion' 100 times over at the game without ever considering singing anything else.

It is a real shame as we must have the most limited and narrow minded fans in terms of picking up and taking on new songs, this was highlighted AGES ago to try and prepare for a good atmosphere at AMEX.

:lolol:

On a serious note though, it is really hard to start new songs, and although spontaneity is best, it just is coming up with the goods these days.

This.

I am sick of the moaning idiots on here. The group I go to away games with have been labelled an embarrassment by many on here, just because one of our number tried giving out song sheets. If we weren't so tied to singing the same old things over and over again maybe the song sheets would not have been necessary. Whenever people try anything different it is guaranteed that some sad sack will be on here as soon as they get home slagging them off.

Simple songs work best.

Most the suggestions in the suggested song threads are far to long to really catch on.

Keep it simle and it may work.

Bit cringey thread though

It isn't really you just need to stick with it. If you have a song you like get your friends to join in with it, if it is any good others will join in eventually.

On the spontaneity idea, I think it is over played. Was the North Stand full of the finest wits who could come up with great chants on the spot, or did groups of friends work out chants in the pub or on the terraces over time? I think we all know what the answer is.

Spider has it right, the only way to make songs stick is to get with your mates at games and try them out. If they are good people will join in. If nobody joins in with your new song It's most likely because It's rubbish.

The problem with doing songs on here is that 99% are appallingly bad.

North stand was full of people with the finest wit it is then.

Nothing wrong with trying new songs, but what we used to do in the olden days was, wait for this it's a fuckin gem...... we used to sing em! on the coach, in the car, on the train, in the pub etc etc etc. This site is full of Lennon/McCartney's when it comes to penning a song, but when it comes to singing it the silence is defening. If you (or anyone) wants to start a new song, have a few beers and fuckin sing it, the acid test is when others join in, If they don't it's probably shit but what have you lost?
