C4's unsigned act is a good show I agree - though i struggle to recall the names of lasts years winning band...

The reason you struggle to remember last years winning band, is because they don't get half as much exposure as the xfactor winner.

And before you say, well you can turn over, nearly every medium I use, the xfactor winner has been mentioned so there is no escaping from it.

Your correct Cowell cannot force people to buy the record, however when something is crap and you keep hyping it up, and advertising it through as many channels as possible your going to make sales.

Yep. He does. Not that that would have anything to do with him choosing that song for the contestants to sing or anything.

Haven't done any extensive research but I don't think that can be true. I think Sony BMG own all 3 charted versions and Cohen would have got the songwriting royalties. Cowell would only have got a cut out of the Alexandra version.

Not only is he enjoying the profits of X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah, his company also owns the rights to the Jeff Buckley's version and the original by songwriter Leonard Cohen.

Incredibly, all three versions expected to top the charts - Alexandra's is tipped to be the Christmas No 1 with Buckley and Cohen possibly in second and third place.

He is raking in a whopping £250,000-a-day from the tracks, according to a report today.

His label, SyCo Music, represents all X Factor winners. Leona Lewis, who won in 2006, is still signed to Syco, and is second in the midweek charts with her cover of Snow Patrol's Run.

Don't hate ANYTHING popular. Just MOST popular stuff IS gash.

I think it's still great that a song was able to get to number two with NO record company backing. Regardless of anyone's taste in genre that is a good sign.

I read it, but what you said was a pretty moot point, if you're just talking about Speed Black Metal, I'm quite happy for Germany to have a stronger presence in that genre than the UK.

It is undisputable who has put out the stronger quality music output across the board over the last 50 years out of the two countries.

That wasn't what I was arguing. My response was to someone claiming the country has no succesful musicians (and actors/comedians, for which I'd wholly agree with them).

Meaning your selective quoting just appeared as vindictive.

I wouldn't even dare to mention Tokio Hotel - they may have some popularity but they're in no way good. Its mostly electronic - both early stuff (Kraftwerk et al), and modern EDM (van Dyk, Schulz, Maas, etc) where my experience would lie, and where there is very high quality music coming out.
