NSC Football Simulation - Sign Up Here! (League 1 now open!)
OK, I've decided to preempt the results from my poll and I've set up a spreadsheet ready for a full simulated season of the 2004/05 Championship. All I need to do is come up with some semi accurate stats and I'm ready to go.
Now is the time to sign up. This game will run for quite a few weeks, probably. The only input I will need from you after signing up is the odd decision as to whether or not to buy a player when the dice dictate. For this reason, it would be preferable if you are fairly regular on this board - you don't need to post all the time but it will make life more interesting if you have some input into the running of your team. Like Spectrum Tennis, I will calculate results as and when I get chance so there will be no set times - I'll just post scores, injury and suspension news and transfer details as and when time allows.
The first 24 people to sign up will be in. I will then perform a random draw to allocate you a team - unless you have a real yearning to be a likely lower side other than the Albion, I will not preallocate teams. (Meaning you can choose to be Stoke or Gillingham for example but not Sunderland or Leeds - or Brighton!). I will then perform the pre season transfer dice rolls and give you a while to decide whether or not to sign a player - if the dice have decreed that you have a change of buying someone.
I'll try and explain the rules as we go along - I think I understand them now. But here is a simple overview :-
The game is played using 4 dice and a series of cards and charts. Results are decided after comparing the 2 teams stats - each team has an Attacking rating and a Defensive rating. Subtracting the defensive rating of your opponents from your attacking rating dictates which Goal Card is used. Put simply, the bigger the difference, the more chance you have of scoring. Two dice are rolled for each team for both the first and second half scores to produce a result.
Injuries and suspensions are checked for before each game and will detract from the teams rating for a number of games - again, all decided by rolling dice a few times.
Transfers are decided by rolling dice - certain combinations will automatically trigger a sale, others will offer the team in question the chance to decide whether or not to sign a player. I'll explain this further when we get to it.
Don't worry too much if you don't understand the way it works because it's me that has to run it! You just need to sign up, decide on transfers every once in a while and then just sit back and watch your team perform - and banter with your opponents if you desire.
This is designed to be a fairly accurate simulation so, for example, Ipswich are more likely to win the league than the Albion. But the random element of the dice means that anyone can beat anyone. The transfer system is also designed so that a new signing for a lower team is more likely to have an impact than a new signing for a better team.
Hopefully, having a full league season rather than a knockout cup such as in Spectrum Tennis will sustain interest longer, even for those of you who get Stoke or Rotherham. Avoiding relegation of fighting for a playoff place should keep you checking scores.
So, if you want in, please sign below - I'll update this list as people join. Any questions, let me know.
