Sorry for being a bit vague here but at the top of the road that goes down to the Laines under the tunnel outside the station, theres a small handmade sign on the wall saying 'here fell (some initials, nfh?) and then a date in 2007.

Whats that about?

The fact its a handmade sign, id guess it probably a mate of the maker as a result of a fight on a beer night ?

its "the Lanes" for the area south of North Street, or "(the) North Laine" for the area north of North Street.

Lanes are the the normal meaning, Laine is old english for a a field.

This. Maybe if we called it the old town, like it would be anywhere else, that would solve the problem. Though personally speaking I find it hard to see why people struggle with the current system. As a point of interest the Lanes used to be called the Town when Brighton only consisted of North Laine and the Lanes. There were east, west and "outer" lane areas too.

I hope this sign has baffled the history nerds since it appeared at the start of the year.

It does indeed refer to one of our most cherished Albion fans who has a habit of falling and I would urge every fan to treat it with respect and reverence before the arty farty types get wind of it and take it down.

Oh, and the fallee is still very much alive (I hope) and will serenade you for the price of a applejuice or seven!
