The guy is obviously getting a masssive pay increase to join Chelsea but his career, I think, will suffer. If he is happy to play in the stiffs that is down to him but I still think Stamford Bridge is the young promising players graveyard.

bet lampard, makalele and essien are shaking in their boots

Makalele may go before the start of next season, and Essien will be involved in the African Nations cup next season as will Mikel

THATS why they have brought in Sidwell !!

Considering they will go far in all their cup competitions, I would imagine that Sidwell could realistically be looking at 25+ starts. He will also improve with better coaches and playing with much better players. Good move for him, I think.

Should earn a lot of money at Chelsea and get to start a few games. Internationals wont get in the way of playing like the rest of the squad. Once he's rich like the rest of the bastards in the Premiership he may decide to play the game for a sport again

Don't talk sense, nobody round here likes it.

Walcott playing 5 games a year is developing at Arsenal, if he had been at Chelsea they would be ruining him even if they played him in more games.

There is far too much anti-Chelsea bias, as you are well aware. All they have done is attract a Billionaire. The real damage to English football was down to the formation of The Premiership and distinct lack of wage caps and damage to international football was clearly G14 or whatever they call themselves. G4 were much less obtrusive.

As you say - Arsenal develop and Chelsea ruin?

Although Wright-Phillips is a lot older than Walcott, he has had to bide his time. Still made 20 or so starts which is not bad.

Hardly like Arsenal gave, Sidwell, Pennant, Upson and Bentley chances and time to develop. Look at Joe Cole and Lampard, both have come on massively at Chelsea. That certainly doesn't help when people want to have a pop at Chelsea.

To be fair I dont really rate Pennant either but Bentley was a bit of a f*** up, still not sure Sidwell can make the step up to a top 4 club but fingers crossed for him.

f*** sake.

How is joining one of the top five teams in Europe a bad move? What's the worst case scenario? He barely plays a game all season. If that happens he can slap in a transfer request which, I would imagine, would be accepted and he can move on to any one of a number of premier league clubs who would be happy to have him. For his season of not playing much he would have earnt a decent wedge and would have had the benefit of training day in and day out alongside world class players. He would still only be 25. Hardly the death knell for his career is it?

More realistically I would suggest is that he has gone there knowing that he's not going to be first choice. However, Chelsea will play 50-60 games next year and as a squad player he's probably expecting to make an appearance in 20-30 of them. He's going to have a month (january) in which he will have a great chance to get a run of appearances and show what he can do. He's going to be training every day with the likes of MAkele, Essien, Cole, Lampard, Ballack who between them have HUNDREDS of international caps and have played in and won the biggest games and tournaments domestic and international football has to offer. That's a fantastic opportunity from which Sidwell can only learn. I expect Sidwell can 'put up' with a situation like this for a couple of seasons. If after a couple of years he feels he is no closer to becoming a regular player, again, he can put in a transfer request and if Chelsea only view him as a squad player I can't imagine they would say no, particularly as they've paid nothing for him. Sidwell would still only be 26.

All in all I don't think it's a bad move for him at all.
