All died down a bit since the women's Euros. I thought women were all behind football now? Haven't heard a mention of women's football from all those women who were apparently huge supporters not so long ago.

I don't know why you earned a facepalm for that. My workplace is full of people who love football. In the past few months, there has been plenty of talk about football. Not once has anyone mentioned the women's game. 100% of the talk has been about the men's teams who the relevant parties support. Brighton, Arsenal, Man U, City, palace, Liverpool and Spurs are represented well and there's a fairly even split of those teams between the sexes. Maybe it is unrepresentative, but I agree, in spite of the huge publicity week on week, apart from the big competitions, people seem to be uninterested.

No competition for air time by major leagues and they can produce it to appeal to their target audiences.

I get your point though if anyone has ever listened to Shebahn Aherne she literally try’s to ram women’s football down everyone’s throats. She comes out with bizarre statements like she doesn’t take her kids to men’s football as it’s to dangerous ffs where does she think generations of fans originate from?
I’ve tried watching women’s football I wouldn’t pay to watch women’s football.

I like women's sports, but then I'm half-woman (my mother was one). I would MUCH rather watch an England women's team win than a men's one lose. I enjoyed the Women's Euro final much more than the men's for example.

Why is so much time given to women's football on tv given how popular it is? Do the powers that be think it will rival the men's game in popularity one day?

Brighton seem a bit confused with this as well, they promote the women's team to the hilt but don't want to spend any money on the team.

Back on thread, I'm all for womens football getting the publicity it deserves. It will continue to grow from here. Yes it won't ever be as popular as the mens game but it's great to see it's growth.

So if there was a a woman’s sky sports news we wouldn’t have this issue.

Everybody’s done it, looked at the fixtures and thought “ooh that’ll be good it’s Barcelona vs PSG” then found out it’s just a woman’s game and been really disappointed. And if the women’s sports were so interesting why don’t they mention you can get a ‘dominoes’ during the half time of a woman’s match ?

Anyway, all I’m asking for is a separate woman’s sky sports news channel not a ban on women’s sports.

I could not agree more with the o/p… I am sick of clicking on an interesting headline only to find that it is about the women’s game . My wife had me look at a tv programme on SS news last week “ it is about Brighton FC” only to find it was the WSL .. it is confusing, however you feel about women’s football. I have zero interest in that.
Sports News and programming should treat it as it is- a totally different sport.

In fact, I prefer watching women's rugby to men's - more running and less brute strength. And women's cricket is superb, easily equal to the men's. I'm sure that in my lifetime, we'll see a woman playing in a first-class team. It nearly happened with Sussex when they registered Sarah Taylor in case of emergency and I'm sure that Sophie Ecclestone wouldn't look out of place in men's cricket.

The big problem with women's sport - and one that I'm not sure how to overcome it - is the gap between the top teams and the rest. Albion are playing Man U in the FA Cup semis but while it's hard to call who'll win the men's match, we know who's going to win the women's. And we saw in the women's Euros how big a gap there is between the best teams and the lessser ones.

It's even more acute in rugby. England will easily win the 6 Nations - only France will give them a game. And the women's Premiership has two teams well ahead of everyone else. I think that once women's sports become more competitive, it will pique a lot more interest.

This is in no way to come across as sexist (my wife’s a woman), so please don’t beat me with that stick.

I just feel that until the men’s and women’s sports get of equal interest to us they shouldn’t waste our time telling us about it. I already have to sit through enough male sports on that channel that I don’t like.

Can you imagine a tennis programme separated into men's and women's. Football and most of it's fans are very outdated. Unfortunately a side effect of social media feeds is that people only want to see things that they already know. Accidentally dumbing down.

If mens and womens sports were of "equal interest" then SSN airtime would surely be split equally between mens and womens sports. Have you actually bothered to survey how much time is devoted to womens sports in a 24 hour period? If you had, and it supported your argument, I'm sure you would have published the facts and stats.

There are 6 or 7 Sky Sports channels (and 4 BTSport) so I'm sure you could find a sports channel that wasn't covering womens sport without looking too hard.

On what basis have you concluded that "no one cares" about womens football? Bit arrogant to think you speak for everybody isn't it?

And I'll let you into a little secret. Women pay Sky Sports subscriptions and watch SSN too.
