Some prisoner successfully challenged it with the European Court of Human Rights, opening the door for others.

I can SEE the liberal idea behind it but I just can't make any sense of it.

Also, for me, the only human rights that prisoners should have is a roof over their head, protected surroundings, food and water. The rest of human rights should be forfeited until they are out of prison.

Should I get my eyes tested, I read the subject as "should pensioners be allowed to live" ! Glad I'm wrong, thought it was a bit strong.

If you boil it down the function of imprisonment is twofold: to take someone out of society who is a threat to society, and as a deterrent to commit crime.

In my book the second aspect is very important, and therefore to normalise someone's life whilst in prison reduces the deterrent element. Given the state of prison over crowding I'd say the deterrent element is weak, therefore giving prisoners more doesn't make any sense from the viewpoint of reducing crime.

i think IVF on the NHS is hard enough to justify. for prisoners? f*** right off.

im sick of what "human rights" have become, while people live in actual poverty and deprivation, those who sit in liberal middle class ivory towers see fit to allow people "rights" which only serve to divert resources away from genuine need. Someone in prison, who therefore by definition have denied some other their human rights, shouldnt even be allowed to bring such a court action.

Therefore, should they be allowed IVF - not whilst they are in prison.

well as my wife and i have both worked and paid contributions for over 20 years each (neither of us have required hospital treatment in the past) we took the NHS's 'free go' without having to justify it at all. Nothing come of it (no pun intended) nor of the subsequent attempts (which including the drugs were over five grand a time) the emotional stress is unmeasurable.

anyhoo, in answer to the original question I believe you kiss good bye to your so called human rights when you burgle (is there such a word?)that house/mug that old dear/rob that bank/rape that woman etc etc

No. So you pay 20 years of tax and NI and are still not necessarily entitled to IVF on national health.......but you go to prison and have it offered on a plate? What a f***ing joke.
f*** peoples human rights......you lose them if your in prison......well at least you should!!!!!
