I would have hoped that by now one of the mods would have unbanned me by now, but alas, it hasn't happened.

By 'banned', I don't mean actually banned, obviously, as I'm posting this right now. But in fact the mods have a new, cowardly tool at their disposal. Some kind of shadow ban, where the victim has restricted access to the server, meaning that the site is unusable. Each page load takes around 20 minutes to load, if at all.

It seems really cowardly to me. I mean, if you want to get rid of people, be open about it and just ban them openly.

Either way - do the people of NSC think that it's time for unbanned, or is the site better off without me?

Vote now.

Not a fan of shadow banning, bit of a lightweight option, either ban someone or not.

That said not sure why you have been shadow banned, if you have, didn't realise that was a thing on here. So in summary you should either be banned or not shadow banned, so gone for don't know

Does shadow banning actually happen on here? It seems a very petty thing to do. Is it being done by a rogue mod or is it officially sanctioned?
I'm voting to unban the OP. If he subsequently breaks the rules then ban him properly.

It's not shadow-banning. There is a shadow-banning plugin available for Xenforo, but it's never been installed here.

Xenforo does provide a native "discouraged user" thingummy that, when applied to a user account, makes the site difficult and awkward to use. To the best of my memory and knowledge, it's been used very, very rarely - I'd say certainly fewer than 10 times and probably under five.

Mustafa wants to make it all about him. so let's do that. This was sent to me by a mild-mannered long-term NSCer:

"Mustafa mkI/II/III appears to have mistaken NSC for a publicly funded forum that he has an inalienable right to access and use, as opposed to a privately-owned site where all are welcome so long as they post within the spirit of the community and try not to be obtuse and antagonistic on too frequent a basis.
He constantly seems to be looking for a way to create friction or prove a point that doesn’t exist. Says he wants to be part of the BHAFC online community but that seems to come with the caveat that that privilege has to be on his terms."
And let's not forget he intentionally made his last departure from NSC as awkward as possible, trying to be as destructive to the site as he could.

And then, sometime later, he just came back and with no word of apology, and just proceeded to carry on as if nothing had happened. And, because I try to be a nice and reasonable chap, I just let him get on with it.

Beyond that, he's repeatedly abusive to the moderators.

He's like a bloke who goes into a pub, insults all the staff, and is then surprised when he returns and the staff don't want to serve him drinks any more.

In short, he seems to have zero self-awareness. All of which is a shame, as he can make interesting and thought-provoking contributions at other times.

If you have a diversity issue (I'm autistic) make it known, and then try to fit in as best you can, if you want to be part of the fun.

If people stress you out, put them on ignore. It is normally not their fault. Just a clash of something. Mojo? The moment?

Most people on here are very nice. Taking the piss is part of life. Pile-ons are part of life. Shrug it off. Apologize when you have made a mistake.

But the moment you make it all about you is the time to step back.

I've removed the discouraged tag.

Next time it will be a permanent ban.

There doesn't need to be a next time though - but that's down to him.

Top man, thanks.

In all honesty, a ban is preferable. It's essentially the same thing - except this 'discouraged user' thing is shady as f***.
