I was utterly toasted at Big Black Cox at Orianas… those Use Ya Loaf nights were great fun.. could get away with murder.. I jumped through the parachute drapes banking off the DJ area, landed on floor right at the feet of CC who wasn’t on yet.. ‘Alright Coxy..!’ Was all I could say say before being thrown back thro the drapes.. 🤣

As an aging DJ who frequented Sherrys way back in the late 70's, why has Brighton never attracted a 'super club' to the town. By that I mean a night club putting on star DJ's from around the world. Yes we have/had all the clubs on the beach plus concorde2 and FBS with his nights. I recall a few years ago a big name have an all nighter at the Brighton Centre which sold out (Carl Cox?). But there's no Calvin Harris, James Hype et al.
plenty of top DJ's came to Escape, Zap and later on Honey Club. i know what you mean about not having a superclub like many northern cities, think it was because there was those good clubs and the two large venues (Event and Paradox) went for more mainstream on-the-pull market, and proximity to London.

I never set foot in Sherries because I could see (from among my class mates) the sort of clientele it attracted.

When I was 15 to 18 it was Hungry Years and Rock night at the Top Rank (where the DJ would play any vinyl we brought along - place was almost empty, just the way I like it).

If you preferred Rod Stewart and Elton John, had a Rod Stewart hair cut, work cow-pat shoes and Brut aftershave, it would have been Sherries.

Snob, moi?
The hungry years was all air guitar types.

Just found this

I knew Jarrod well for many years prior to all this. I didn't know he was a Coasters frequenter. It was the first club I went to. Sadly he passed away a while back.

I remember Rory well, everyone's favourite queen.

All of us who went there were under 18. We didn't even try to hide it.

Indeed. I haven't been to many conventional straight night clubs but I've twice ended up in hospital after visits: far fewer dickheads at gay clubs
Funny . . . Knuckle draggers seem to gravitate toward the catle markets on West St.

Sister Rays was a good misfits club . . . Goths was what everyone assumed, but as scooterboys, late 80's they welcomed us, we just wanted a few beers, some music and leap about a bit. By the early mid 90's there were loads more smaller niche (if you like) back street (boogaloo) clubs, playing decent music, the twats never had a clue, and we had a f***ing great time. Even better, the door staff knew the score. Brighton has had an NDP for quite some time thinking about it..
