On the soundtrack of SAS Rogue Heroes.

Brought back memories of my youth.

Is Jimmy Pursey still going?

We’re going down the pub.
I saw them at the original Roxy in 77.

Stage stormed by 4 dweebs who looked like they wanted to be football hooligans but were not... big enough.

I was hit in the face by a half full can of lager thrown by one of them.

But I was a punk rocker and let it bounce off me.

I thought Pursey was a bit of a wanker, and their hard core followers a load of smelly badly-dressed prats.

Hersham boys, Borstal break out.

And the lyrics  a 14 year old who had never left Sussex could 'of' written that.

Ulster boy
You know it's gonna last a few more years
So when you throw them bricks
Don't you cry no tears
And when you see those tanks go past
You hide your bomb and you run from the blast
Ulster
There ain't no winners
And now you're lyin' in your hospital bed
You can still hear the bullets rushing past your head
No more fun for you ain't no more
You've ended like the rest and now you're dead

Haven't seen Rogue Heroes but I have heard 'If the kids are united' which I think was being used for an EE advert.

No clue if any version of Sham 69 is still going.

Much as I am enjoying Rogue Heroes I am finding the Punk music soundtrack very annoying

Jimmy Pursey! That's reminded me of the time that a work colleague of mine - a very posh young woman, privately educated daughter of a knight of the realm - told me that she stepped out with Jimmy Pursey in her younger days. That must have been a strange couple - her with her accent that could cut glass and him, a Hersham boy.

Certainly the most unlikely of my friends' rock star dalliances.

I’m gonna tell the children…

In his post Sham days, I think Jimmy tried heavy metal with ’meaningful’ lyrics and then some sort of interpretive dancing… Always seemed slightly confused to me. I have not seen or heard of any variations of The Sham on the revival circuit and would avoid like the plague if I did.

I'm a veteran of maybe a couple of hundred or more gigs during the punk / new wave era and the Sham 69 gig at the Top Rank was the scariest by a mile.

We had played (I think) Charlton in the evening and I had left early to go to the gig. Met some Charlton early leavers at Hove station who warned me about the skinheads coming down from London. They weren't joking. The security staff who could be real bullies just disappeared for the evening. I spent the whole gig at the bottom of the stairs rather than at the front as punk after punk was set upon by the facists with quite a few being carried out.

Pursey encouraged the right wing nazi scum to follow the band and after that night I ruled Sham 69 out of my life!

I was at that game. Serious trouble in the away end most of the game and the police did nothing to stop it either

Seen them many times in many various line ups, never really to see them if I am honest, they play many punk festivals….TBH if they were playing in my kitchen I would shut the door, and I love punk.

They played the New Regent, must have been '78. Me and my mate, 15 years old and 15 stone between us, were waiting to get in and there were a number of their "colourful" following also hanging around when along South Street comes a white Rolls Royce, old feller driving, Duchess beside him. Within seconds it was covered in beer and skinheads.
Was very amusing to an irresponsible juvenile.
Mostly, though, they were crap and their followers were arseholes (especially the three that beat me up for wearing a Clash badge at the Reading Festival that same year)

It was a bit like Fulham is now, whereby you walk all the way round the back of the stand. Also, the turnstile operators would squeeze two through at a time and make a few quid for themselves. Talk about health and safety.

Remember the bloke who was shagging my step mum, buying me a Sham69 album for Christmas
The one with newspaper clippings on the cover,I already had Tell UsThe Truth
I suppose that's where he got the idea from
Which I thought was bloody nice of him,he didn't have to
Having a brand new vinyl back then was really something
