Set pieces

Why are we generally poor at set pieces in that we have problems defending them, and are poor at attacking them unless the ball is played short for Lua Lua and virtually no variation.

Orlandi's only played 3 games and we've scored from 2 of his corners so hopefully he'll be back on Tuesday.

we are good at defending set pieces. Best goals against this season and last year not to shabby either.

Out corners were gash yesterday though. Would of rather the dreaded short ones than most that were lumped in there

Delivery yesterday was generally quite poor. Also, we do lack height for attacking the higher balls. Vicente and Lua Lua can both be deadly from free kicks, trouble is they're not very often on the pitch!!

I think defending them too often we don't have discipline, we see one of their players drop into an offside position, and someone will drop back to cover him, and play him onside, giving them more space.

I thought a few of the corners coming in from the west side at the north end weren't that bad, they were played at a good height on the edge of the six yard box, but we had no one in there to get on the end of them.

Just generally speaking, it seems ages since we had some sense of routine with set pieces, neat little tricky things. The nearest to a routine we have is laying it square for Lualua to belt at the goal, and I don't think we've done that since league one.

Also, at times it seems like our players are looking to the bench for instructions for set pieces, with no sense that they know what to do.

Having said that, we have scored 3 goals from corners, 3 from free kicks, and yesterday's was the nearest we've come from conceding from a set piece (ignoring the barnsley penalty). (Assuming my memory isn't playing tricks on me, birmingham belted a freekick up the pitch, our defended headed it out to their player to volley in, how much that can be defined as "from a set piece" I don't know).

We lost a HUGE amount at set pieces both attacking and defending when we lost Glenn Murray. Much worse since then.

That is true but we must move on and not just keep referring back to 'the good old days'. Time for the management/coaching staff to become a little more inventive.

How I wish we still had the Murray option now.

We did some really nice training ground set pieces but Birmingham caught onto it and we didn't adjust.

Perhaps they had a spy looking in? - bollocks mate we were fecking poor------on Tuesday I expect 100percent improvement.
