Personally I'd like to see us work on these a bit more next season. We probably have a fairly good hit rate compared to some clubs, but with Buckley, Noone, Kazenga, and Vicente (hopefully) on the books, I think we should up our game.

Maybe it's a question of finding the training time but Freekicks and Penalty practice please!

Some kind of Flairkick would be fun, perhaps something like this:

I think defending set pieces is more of a priority! We actually work some quite clever routines from set pieces with distraction runs and people ghosting in unseen, but those on the end of them never really seemed to finish them off. It was mostly effective when we kept it on the ground though, as soon as we whipped it through the air we tended to get dominated.

Our set pieces(mainly free kicks and corners) were shocking last season. Penalty ratio seemed ok.

We HAVE to get this addressed and really need a few of the new faces to have this in their skills set to improve us in this area.

I could not believe how many times we wasted a free kick or had our corners easily defended last season.

I cant remember a season where we had less success at corners. I think we scored ONE prior to Vicente strating to play. Appaling.

I agree. With Elliott Bennett the year before last we were excellent

I remember 1 game at Withdean, we had 4 conrners in a row, each one was different and we scored from the 4th. Totally confused the opposition

Apart from when Greer and El-Abd/Dunk who else in the team can really challenge for headers/corners? Face it, we're a team of midgets. That is why its vital that we buy some big, dominating players this summer. We were too easily pushed about by bigger teams.

And, if I remember correctly, we gave away an awful lot of goals from set pieces.
So, yes, we do need to improve ours, but we've also got to defend much better against them.

If Vicente comes back then problem solved, his corners and free kicks were nigh on perfect most the time.

Personally I would like to see us defending the opposition corners better. Seems we seldom have a defender on or close to each post.Reckon a lot of goals were conceded last season 'cos of a lack of this or am I missing something?

Can't remember now but seem to recall our stats from goals scored at set pieces was pretty good, although watching I thought our's was awful? Bet alot of ours were from directs shots such as LuaLua and Vicente vs Pompey. Do need a strategy I think, our squad clearly doesn't have a height advantage so would be nice to find some sort of routine to fool defences from free kicks in crossing positions.

I'm working on a side step and reverse body swerve so that I can jump the toilet queue at half time, buy a pint and still get back to my seat before the game starts again.
