[Football] Season ticket sharing

Like many others our seats will remain empty for the odd game that we will not be able to attend, as the cost and effort needed to transfer the ticket to family or friends is not worth it. There are going to be many empty seats this season.
Going to Burnley where I just had to scan my ticket to gain entry felt I was back supporting football, unfortunately I am not looking forward to the visit to fortress Amex as much as I should be.

I think the empty seat issue will be a lot worse for Watford and Everton due to school holidays, personally I’m away for both games but have relisted mine and my 2 kids on the exchange. The other potential for empty seats is midweek when a lot of junior STH won’t go, this effects me as I normally change my kids tickets to adults and take non-STH friends, I ask the friends to pay the uplift of the ticket price from junior to adult, I probably won’t do this now as I cant see any of my friends wanting to pay £20 for the one off privilege.

Yes, but that's because we're still in a pandemic and the club are just implementing procedures that are going to become mandatory in about 5 weeks, and this will all hopefully disappear at some point in the next 6 month. This thread is all about season ticket sharing and entrance to the actual stadium.

A great option if you are an Albion fan but I would guess a lot of the passing on of tickets is to non Albion fans. In our group my brother has been on odd occasion (Pompey fan) my father in law who follows football but not a club and sometimes mates. None of those would be interested in those benefits or go regularly enough to bother paying for it.

That’s not a moan at the club for how they want it to work but in our case will now be putting any spares on the exchange which with extra seats and the evaporation of the ST waiting list mean they will be more likely to be empty than full on occasions we cannot make it.

ID is only for cross check with the Covid pass; it's not checked at the turnstiles.

I sit next to someone who misses several games each season and who lives 25 miles from me. Previously it was an absolute pain coordinating the collection and return of the actual plastic season ticket card when I wanted to pay to borrow it for a mate.
This makes it so much easier and my mate who gets to borrow the unused season ticket now gets it emailed to him and pays £41 per game (£770/18 games) instead of £57 from general sale or the exchange.
The borrowing non-ST mate also gets to sit next to me and no one has to collect or return the plastic ticket to the original ST holder.

I reckon it's a very cleverly worked out scheme and I'm pleased with how convenient it is.

It's a bit like paying out for Amazon Prime, you resent paying a lump sum before you used it, but soon start saving money.

In this case after two shares to the same person you are both saving money and it's very, very convenient.
Once the dust settles on this scheme and people who resent paying out £20, or struggle with technology, acknowledge the benefits it will all work out fine.

In my opinion the "I'll leave my seat empty" fans who object to paying £20 are cutting of their nose to spite their face.
If you leave the seat empty v Watford that's one chance to get some money back missed already.

I thoroughly agree. There are loads of people like me that can't make a significant number of games per season and have always shared their ST cards with someone to a degree. The club has always known about this and turned a blind eye, but this scheme enables us to come clean and, as you rightly say, it saves on the faff of having to physically transfer an ST card to the person that's going to the game, which can involving posting it recorded delivery sometimes!

As for when your usual Albion+ member recipient can't go either, then just forward the print-at-home ticket to someone else that you trust not to get themselves ejected and I'm sure that the club will turn the same blind eye it's been turning for the last 10 years.

Yup. For STHs who want a well-thought out and hassle-free way to legitimately transfer a ST to a My Albion+ member then it works well and what's more will save the My Albion+ member money vs. the cost of one-off tickets (even if they also pay the STHs £20 annual fee) after 2 ticket shares. Even if you only do it once / season you'd probably break even vs. the cost of match day tickets. For this group of people it works well.

For STHs who want to be able to pass their ticket to family / mates / frankly anybody they want, who actually aren't that bothered about the Albion but fancy a day at the football including the option of free (club paid) travel then admittedly it doesn't work so well. Struggling to be bothered about this second category, no matter how many times people huff, "that means my seat will be empty then!"

Yes - it’s £20 for the season PLUS £25-£28 each person - for a ticket already paid for.

For a non-transferrable ticket you've paid for (at a heavily-discounted rate).

About 1,400 tickets left for Watford. There might also be a number of S/T holders who don’t pass on their ticket.

That’s pretty good considering it’s only Watford, where we are in the pandemic, that there is a new ticketing system, it’s holiday season, the capacity has gone up and people need to navigate the Covid-19 entry system to get access.

Pretty pretty good.

Can we just put on record that there will be LOADS of empty seats for the first few matches - there always is in August and September. Nothing to do with new rules. Thanks.

Only just read this after my previous post. So if I’ve understood correctly, this means that if neither I nor the usual recipient of my ST can go, then I can still transfer the ticket to him, but rather than forwarding him the email with the print-at-home ticket and download link, I can just forward it to someone else as a one-off lend, right? Sounds ideal!

Unfortunately the new ticket will have the name of the person you originally wanted to transfer it to on it. They’d still need photo id etc to get in and that won’t match unless they happen to be identical twins.
