I am thinking of subscribing this for this season.

Keep reading different views on here, is it worth it? Bearing in mind I cannot listen on SCR or view goal highlights on Virgin.

What do you guys think?

I would say go for it. The video clips and news are good and there will soon be a cam at Falmer to watch.

Regarding the commentaries. There are problems from time to time generally getting coverage started.

I listen to (nearly) every game and have agreed with everyone concerned at league matches that coverage will start 30 minutes before kick off. That way if there are problems it gives a reasonable time to get it working.

I have a list of telephone numbers to ring to get it sorted. This system is now pretty effective and there were only a few minutes of lost commentary last season.
In general commentary problems lie with the BBC and not Seagulls World and I am mindful that we have a new BBC commentator this season who is inexperienced at problem solving.

The friendlies commentaries have not been a good recommendation but hopefully like the team they are whipping themselves into shape for the league season.

Further to Uncle C's comments. We have had problems at Havant and Stevenage, partly because of the inadequte facilities at non-league stadia (it doesn't help that ISDN lines have stood unused for a good few weeks since the end of last season). That said, we don't usually do live commentaries on away pre-season fixtures, only the home ones, so it is unchartered territory. Hopefully, Wimbledon, Crawley, and certainly Torquay and Scunny, will offer better facilities.

Also, you get reserve and youth highlights, Hart of the Matter and first plays of the podcasts. Plus, new for this season MP's Stadium Video Blog.

Go for it, I'm sad enough to actually try and plan my day around the match commentary far too often when I am abroad. You will wonder why the hell you bothered come 5pm on a Saturday on far too many occasions over a season, but you'd be wondering that even if you'd been to the game

It's not the most professional set up but neither is the club you follow so what the hell eh?

Subscribed on 30th all very easy, and live commentry had its first try out today.

Verdict........ Bloody great, sound cut out a couple of times but only for a few seconds, if it carries on like today for the rest of the season will be well pleased, especially if the results and performances on the field are the same.

Looking forward the video highlights now, when do they normally appear?

thanks again for your advice especially Uncle C.

Highlights of a League game usually appear on the Monday, or if it's a midweek game usually a Thursday

It's all you've got if you're abroad, but it still makes me nervous at times. But I put up with the tech glitches just for the commentary. All the blokes I work with watch the Super Sports channel with live Premier League matches, while I'm at a desk glued to a laptop listening to Albion in another room - they think I'm mad

I know Paul Camillin reads these threads and I would just like to canvass a bit of opinion on SW.

My feeling is that this year the volume levels from the commentaries are consistently low (one match did get turned up a bit at half time when I rang).

I find I am having to run my computer at nearly full volume. Thats just about OK till the computer announces "you've got mail" and blasts me across the room.

Is this a consistent problem with others?

Not for me. The sound level was fine.

I have been one of SW's sternest critics in the past - while at the same time reluctantly accepting it as the only way to get matchday commentary over here. The core content package is extremely good value. But it's been let down only by appalling supporting technology, embarrassingly amateurish web design and inadequate customer service (Why is it down to the customer - rather than the service provider - to carry out obviously needed pre-match, end-to-end reception testing FFS?)

BUT, that's now in the past. I'm pleased to see that with the rebranding from SW to Player, the site redesign is far better, more intuitive and user-friendly. And the picture size, video and sound quality all seem to have improved in spades.

Yesterday's Scunthorpe matchday experience was very good indeed - especially with the change of commentator. Keep that up and there will be a lot of new and contented subscribers. To anyone considering signing up - especially if beyond Sussex - I'd say go for it.
