There is a direct rail service between Newcastle Airport and the Stadium of Light. It's the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Oops, I stand corrected. Clearly the airport information officer who told me when I was there autumn last year that 'I'd be better off getting a cab' didn't like the look of my face!!!
