A tram network would cost an absolute fortune to start up. It just won't happen. Plus Brighton & Hove Buses are very protective of their network and would protest all day and night.

I can't remember where it was, but there was a piece on TV recently about a town somewhere in the UK that has spent a mint on building lines for such a system, and has now run out of money and is faced with binning the whole idea. Anyone enlighten me as to where it was?

Since when has Saldean Lido moved from the sea front ?

Just a thought but a simple tram line to the seafront from the ground would be an idea. No idea how much trams cost to build but Manchester has trams. Its just a thought for a long term solution on transport. Short term is shuttle busses to and from Brighton station because no matter how much it makes sense for shuttle trains between the ground and brighton / lewes stations at 5pm on a Saturday and for evening games, the people that run the railways seem to have a cant do instead of a can do attitude. Not much changed from British Rail.. No Use Rushing attitude still prevails.
The single line tram route in Nottingham cost £229 million and took 16 years to implement. Think how many stadiums you could have for that price.

Shame really. The tram works well in Nottingham, stretching some 5 to 6 miles. Works in harmony with trains and buses. So don't see why not Brighton.

I don't really get why they built that tram route in Nottingham as it runs alongside the railway for most of the route to Hucknall. The second line will be good though.

On the whole buses are a far better option as they're more flexible and much cheaper. I don't think putting trams in is forward thinking; more nostalgic really.

By the way there's a couple of the old Brighton trams in a farmyard at the bottom of Chanctonbury ring by the car park.

Probably thinking of Edinburgh. They have overspent massively and recently had to borrow an extra £200m to continue.

Edinburgh. I think Princess Street is an absolute mess at the moment on the back of it.

There you go Edna. They are building or have built them all over the place ,Cambridge, Luton. Need a lot of land, so rubbish. Overhead Monorail a la Simpsons is the way to go.

Monorail! Monorail! Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!
What'd I say?

Ned Flanders: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: What's it called?

Patty+Selma: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: That's right! Monorail!

[crowd chants `Monorail' softly and rhythmically]

Miss Hoover: I hear those things are awfully loud...

Lyle Lanley: It glides as softly as a cloud.

Apu: Is there a chance the track could bend?

Lyle Lanley: Not on your life, my Hindu friend.

Barney: What about us brain-dead slobs?

Lyle Lanley: You'll be given cushy jobs.

Abe: Were you sent here by the devil?

Lyle Lanley: No, good sir, I'm on the level.

Wiggum: The ring came off my pudding can.

Lyle Lanley: Take my pen knife, my good man.
I swear it's Springfield's only choice...
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!

All: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: What's it called?

All: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: Once again...

All: Monorail!

Marge: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...

Bart: Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!

All: Monorail!
Monorail!
Monorail!

[big finish]

Monorail!

Homer: Mono... DOH!

The Brighton line is a seriously fantastic idea - why not individually name the trams after Albions players such as the Noony or the CM-S ?
